Kerry Wood Intro Music

I realize Wrigley Field is not one of those hoochie-mama good-time-rock-and-rollin' music-blastin'-out-of-the-speakers-nonstop place, but if you could choose the music to play when Kerry Wood makes his return jog out to the mound, what would it be?

At first I was leaning toward the "Rocky" theme, but that's too Philadelphia-ish.  I'm now leaning towards Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" (especially if he could ride a black helicopter onto the field).  Any other ideas?

[And I'll take care of the obvious choice and nix "Wild Thing" ala Major League.]
[And yes, it'll probably be too loud to hear anything except the roar of the crowd!]

It won't matter what they play
cause I anticipate being able to hear the roar of the crowd up here in Northbrook when Kerry Wood enters the game.

I wouldn't bother with music.
As noted above, the crowd's reaction will be the best thing about seeing Kerry Wood return.

Oh It'll Be Loud
but I guess it's the American/Hollywood in me that wants to punch it up another notch.  I'm hoping to be home in time to see it on TV.  If not surely someone(s) will post a video on YouTube.

"Wild Thing" is OK
Just as long as it's the Jimi Hendrix live at Monterey Pop version.  Maybe some of the most thunderous guitar chords ever opening it, then Jimi's distinctive voice roars in...

"Freak Scene" by Dinosaur Jr.
For some reason, this song came to mind when I thought about this. Key lyrics:

Sometimes I don't thrill you
Sometimes I think I'll kill you
Just don't let me f**k up, will you?
Cuz when I need a friend it's still you

Good luck, Kerry!

For the humor of it...
Bear with me - I went way overboard on this. Some would work better as part of WGN's broadcast and not over the loudspeaker

Somewhat inspiring/intimidating/meaningful:
-Chris Cornell "You Know My Name" (from Casino Royale)
-Collective Soul "Better Now"
-Daughtry "It's Not Over"
-Johnny Cash (cover) "I Won't Back Down"
-Lifehouse "Hanging by a Moment"
-Live "Lightning Crashes"
-Our Lady Peace "One Man Army"
-Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight"
-Sonata Arctica "Peacemaker"
-Staind "It's Been a While"
-Tommy Lee "Hold Me Down"

Overly Sappy or Silly:
(Laugh, but you know you sing along...with some of them)
-Natasha Bedingfield "Unwritten"
-Phil Collins "Can't Stop Loving You"
-Remy Zero "Save Me" (Smallville theme)
-Richard Marx "Ready to Fly"
-Rod Stewart (cover) "Faith of the Heart"
-Seal "This could be Heaven"
-Stan Bush "The Touch" (from the Transformers animated film from the 80s)
-Wilson Phillips "Hold On" (just because of Harold and Kumar)
-When in Rome "The Promise" (works best if Hill is the starter that game, after his Fox intro a few weeks ago)
-"You're the Best Around" (from Karate Kid)

Somewhat mean/depressing:
-Bon Jovi "Living on a Prayer"
-Bowie and Queen "Under Pressure"
-Counting Crows "Long December"
-Greenday "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"
-Hurt "Falls Apart"
-Nickleback "Savin me"
-Rascal Flatts "What Hurts the Most"
-REM "Everybody Hurts"
-Switchfoot "This is Your Life"

Really mean:
-Default "Wasting my time"
-Lit "Over My Head"

Since this is the first time he's coming back that we aren't desperate, and because all of Cubdom inevitably leans on Wood and Prior too much:

"Lean on Me"

Pat on the back
Have to give you kudos for sticking a Sonata Arctica song on the list.  I'm just a casual fan of them myself, but I know them well enough that you have to have good taste in music to know them at all.  Of course, that praise is almost negated by the Green Day nod, but I am willing to ignore that if you never mention them again.  :)

I have always felt that "The Attitude Song" by Steve Vai would be a great intro track, but it does not quite fit Woody's personality.  Dream Theater's "As I Am" is a decent fit for him lyrically and instrumentally.

by Qixotl on Aug 3, 2007 12:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey, the Greenday nod was in mean/depressing
Also, Blvd is a decent song

As for SA, I've been a fan for a couple years. Heard "Broken" on an internet radio station and had to go look them up. Broken remains my favorite song, I think, but I like most of their songs. Bought the most recent album, Unia, as soon as it came out.

SA led me to some Stratavarius, Dragonforce and other metal groups, too. Particularly like "Hunting High and Low", of course, which Sonata Arctica performed with Strat once. And Strat's version of "Green Sleeves", all instrumental, is pretty cool.

Dragonforce - Soldiers of the Wasteland - almost 10 minutes of metal magnificence

Bluegrass, love your choice of music. Our Lady Peace? Suprised someone other than me knows of then.

Kerry Wood or Mark Prior...
Either one could come in, give up back-to-back-to-back jacks, and they still wouldn't get booed. There'd just be a whole lot of sighs.

Jamie's Got A Gun ... just change it to "Kerry's ..."

Perhaps Asia's Heat Of The Moment

I know I shouldn't be excited about this, but I am ... damn it.

Can't believe I'm responding to this
But c'mon.  It's got to be "Knock on Wood."  Preferably the original Eddie Floyd version.

But Wrigley Field should really stay out of those things.

by Josh77 on Aug 3, 2007 11:53 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed,
but I'd roll out the theme from "M*A*S*H."

Again, I warn you all about any excitment over this. Wood (and "The Employee") are both as fragile as crystal. When he's grabbing his elbow/arm/wrist/pinky during outing number #2, maybe we can put all this to rest and move on.

I hear whining about Cliff Floyd, but he's the picture of health in comparison to Wood and Prior.

Apparently, that's what it's going to take to end this circus for many of you.  Another major, agonizing breakdown. This guy is excess baggage, and his career is finished. He can throw all he wants in "A" ball but it's a bit different in MLB, don't you think? Or are we so clouded by 'nostalga' from 2003  that you must have this guy back? America loves a comeback story, I guess.
I'd rather not waste any time of this season.

I (and Cubs management) have relied on this guy way too much over the past 7 years. It's time to let go.

Sympathy For The Devil
Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
Ive been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith
And I was round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general's rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out,
Who killed the Kennedys?
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
Im a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But whats confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
'cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, whats my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
What's me name
Tell me, baby, what's my name
Tell me, sweetie, what's my name
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
