Did ARam damage Cordero?

Up 5-4 with two outs and a runner on third base just before Francisco Cordero threw a first pitch walk off HR to ARam Cordero's season to date states looked like this:
IP:33.3 ERA:2.41 SV%:93.1%
His stats, including the 2 run HR, since then are as follows:
IP:12.2 ERA:7.11 SV%:63.6%

I think it is worth noting that for Cordero to return to a 2.41 ERA he would have to pitch 24.2 consecutive shutout innings, so even though the 12.2 innings is a small sample size it is enough to show a change in perfomance.
Now it is possible that ARam's HR is an effect, and not the cause, of Cordero's struggles.  But regardless, it seems pretty clear that Cordero's pre June 29th numbers are much better than his post June 29th numbers. Hopefully the pre June 29th Cordero doesn't return because the Cubs have really benefitted from the poor play from the brewers pen.

To compare Dempster's stats for the season are:
IP:40.2 ERA:3.76 SV%:89.5%

Go Cubs!

Interesting
I could posit that it contributed to it, certainly. Remember Lidge had a hard time after Pujols took the wind out of his sails last year.

Being a closer is a chore. You have to have a certain degree of mental prowess, or in some cases, a lack thereof.

Lidge is doing better, I suspect Cordero will at some point.

Cool stats though, thanks for sharing!

He was overachieving
..early on not that good few are Gagne like and 100% bulletproof.

Always believed and agreed those kind of losses really hurt and take more of a toll on a team than, say, losing 2-1 or 10-3...looks like a win, everybody doin their job, and then a huge letdown.

Tough to come back from but good players/teams do, or have to, all the time.

Be int. for Milw. going on road if they suffer a downturn were def. poised for a sweep.

Cards were swept and fallin further out of it.

That's an interesting point
But Cordero blew back to back saves in a weekend series with Toronto around June 13th if I'm not mistaken.  Also you have to remember that when the Brewers traded Carlos Lee to the Rangers for Cordero (there were other players, but that was the main package), it was believed that the Brewers were tottally ripped off.

Okay, here's the deal:

Brewers get:
Cordero
Kevin Mench
Laynce Nix
Julian Cordero

Rangers get:
Carlos Lee
Nelson Cruz

It was considered a bad trade because Mench had been a guy who had hype around him for 3 or 4 years but never really got beyond it.  Cordero had imploded, and Nix and the other Cordero are both middle prospects, nothing special.

Lee was a two month rental, but Nelson Cruz is a decent OF prospect.

It looked like the Rangers fleeced the Brewers but then Cordero was almost unstoppable for a year and Lee didn't sign with the Rangers.  Cordero could just be returning down to earth.  I don't know too much about Cordero's numbers, but he could even be really streaky for like months at a time.

Ramirez might have been the straw that broke the camels back or the push over the ledge.  That game was SO sweet in the end!

Almost as sweet
as the sound of Alfonso Soriano's quad snapping in half.

Nice Poo
Earlier you defended yourself when someone called you a troll.

The sausage has just been let right out of the trousers.

I hope you get seriously hurt in the next couple days. In fact, losing a thumb would be good.

I see a ban in your immediate future. :)

watch Al watch
Im sorry i state the obvious, while others state some of the most assanine comments that ive read on this entire blog.  Someone suggested the cubs should trade D-Lee, I defend D-Lee, and im the troll.

My name is a satirical message on some of the ramblings that indeed take place here. However, I do like the site and what AL and most everyone has to say.

Apparently there is a fine line between common sense and idiocy on this site, but keep a close eye on me Al, I'll sure to be careful what I write. Say hi to Stalin for me.

Hmm
I don't imagine it has to do with you defending Lee, as much as it has to do with your affection with hearing one of our role player's quad snap.

Cordero
was never that good to begin with.  I think ARam's hoomer was a symptom of his problems and not the cause of them.  Descent pitcher but not a lock down closer sort.

Dempster 05 = Cordero 07
one very good year and next year he will be a huge bust..
Now that he is back, play Matt Murton!!

Look up Cordero's career first...
he actually has a long history of being a good closer/setup man:
  1. 39 appearances, 1.79 ERA, 10 saves
  2. 15 saves, 18 holds, 2.94 ERA
  3. 49 saves, 2.14 ERA
  4. 37 saves, 3.39 ERA
Pretty much aside from his awful stretch with the Rangers in April of 2006, he has been a really good reliever.
