Dead men walking

I was at MM Park last night and saw the game up close and personal. Some observations. 1.With minor exception, the entire team looked like they would rather be anyplace else but the ballpark. If body language can be believed, this team had absolutely no spark at all. Worst offender....Lee who walked as slowly throughout the game as possible. 2.Patterson was playing so deeply in LF he could have scratched his back on the wall. Why? 3.13 Ks. Williams was throwing 87MPH fastballs and the split between his FB and slider was only about 5MPH. The Astros didn't beat us. We beat ourselves. 4.During BP the Cubs hit very few into the stands. Guys, this is MM Park. If you can't hit the seats pregame, something serious is wrong. 5.Kendall works pitchers. I think he'd be a great guy to look at in the #2 hole. 6.Floyd, DeRosa, Jones and Lee all looked lost at the plate. Time for a rest? 7.This team needs a spark. We're going to a Colorado with a huge outfield to cover. Pie would seem to be a possible answer. 8.Jones has had his moment of glory. He's a waste at the plate and the ultimate rally killer. In summary, the Cubs were an embarrassment last night and also on Monday. The offense is the problem, not the rotation. Without a fix, we may be able to get lucky and back into the playoffs. But why take the chance when the Central is ours for the taking.
