Cubs Logo ok'ed in Japan

http://www.asahi.com/english/Herald-asahi/TKY200708090403.html

I Just found this interesting. I guess MLB was originally denied permission to use the Cubs logo in Japan.  MLB appealed to the high court in Japan and won, but I found  the reasons the Japanese court agreed to let the logo be used to be strange.

On Wednesday, the high court overruled the patent office's decision, stating the team is well known in Japan because popular power hitter Sammy Sosa was on the team.

Another reason was that the team belongs to the National League Central Division to which Japanese player So Taguchi's team, the St. Louis Cardinals, also belongs.

"People would normally recognize (the trademark) as that of Cubs," the court ruling said.(IHT/Asahi: August 10,2007)
