Minor League Wrap -- August 9, 2007

Josh is movin' on up to become a more capitol fellow, and I pull easy duty tonight, as the I-Cubs are idle.

Tennessee Smokies

Maybe Mark Holliman didn't like being used out of the pen recently and then having to start today.  He and the Smokies bowed to the West Tenn club, losing 10-4

Tyler Colvin had a triple and single in 5 AB.

Daytona Cubs

Whoa, there, big fella!  Brian Dopirak hit his 16th homer, helping the high-A squad to a victory over Clearwater.  But he also got thrown out trying to steal second base.  Somebody needs to remind him he's no Matt Murton on the basepaths.

Starter Jesse Estrada struck out 7 and walked only one in 7 innings to get the win.  Catcher Steve Clevenger got two RBI on a home run, and also singled.

Peoria Chiefs

The Chiefs beat Great Lakes 5-4. Darwin Barney hit a home run, and later singled with two outs in the ninth to score the winning run.  Four shutout innings by Jayson Ruhlman and Matt Maradeo helped the cause.

Boise Hawks

The Hawks faced Salem-Keizer in a late game.

The AZL Cubs were also idle.
