Virtual Waiting Room Tips & Tricks

So ... I am hearing conflicting stories about the virtual waiting room and tips/tricks associated with getting past the doorman and into the promised land.  There are three predominant schools of thought.

1.) Open up as many windows as you possibly can without crashing your browser.  When the "wait" is up, you have that many chances to get in.

2.) Just keep hitting refresh because the "waiting room" is less of a waiting room and more of a traffic control.

3.) Get there are close to 8:30:00 A.M. as possible, as the order is first-come, first-serve.

The first two assume a sort of a randomness.  The third option assumes that they actually reward punctuality.

Either way, we probably all have about five minutes to make this work on Sunday morning.  For my part, I know that I'll have two computers and three cell phones fired up and ready to rock and roll.

So, anyone else care to share -- or you wanna hog the information for yourself?  I'll offer my first 100% sure-fire tip in the comments as a gesture of good faith.

Listen to the Cubs from your cell-phone
With the season winding down, there were probably better opportunities to share this ... However, it's been totally INVALUABLE on days the Cubs aren't on EI and my internet connection is slow, or I'm in a car.

This number broadcasts Cubs baseball over your cell phone.  It's often busy, but it works:

Part true
  1. Open as many windows as possible works but stay on top of it because there is a time limit once you are selected to buy tickets.
  2. I don't think hitting refresh helps the matter any.  On the other hand I haven't tried because there is always big bold print in the VWR saying do not hit refresh.
  3. The order is completely random in the selection process but arriving early means there will be less people logged on hence a better chance to get selected.
  4.  Bourbon and lots of it

IE 7
Would let you have many windows open in "one window"...kinda like picture in picture on a TV...or the 8 screens at once feature of direct TV

I believe firefox has this feature as well.

In 2003
Ticketmster did the playoff tix for the Marlins and they actually e-mailed you a PDF file that you printed yourself shortly after paying for the tickets.

I remember spending 3 or 4 hours a day checking on-line and trying to get a ticket and continually being told the games were sold out.  I also remember that you had to enter one of those funky blurry codes each time you tried.....BUT...finally on Thursday (before the Fri,Sat.,Sun.) games, you could get in and get single tickets...good seats also.....but you had to keep trying...you'd get a ticket....and then be told sold out several times....then....another ticket would pop up....couldn't get "seats together"....but was able to get seats to the games....granted...I'm sure the demand is greater at Wrigley Field/in Chicagoland.....

thats
why its for home game #1 and #2.  That would be games 3 and 4 if we don't have home field advantage, and games 1 and 2 if we do.

I was told...
that where your I.P. address is registered has an effect on when you get to buy. I'm not sure this is true, but if it is I'm probably out of luck being in Arkansas.

Probably correct on IP address discrimination
From Nashville, I've had problems with the virtual waiting room for regular game tickets during the last several years. I just want to get to Wrigley a couple of times a year, but have to resort to ticket brokers, etc.  There should be another way to treat real fans who are out of town.

I live in SoCal
and always got pretty decent seats & games at Wrigley through the internet on the first day of ticket sales. Sunday, however, is a completely different animal with minimal games and maximum interest. The best way to get into a Cubs playoff game is to know a season-ticket holder with one to spare. Or get tickets at the opposition stadium, which I plan to do if they end up playing either AZ or SD.

what about the phone number
It gives an Illinois residents number and an out of town number. Does the IL number get preference? Does anyone know if I am out of town would I be better off calling to the IL number or do I have to call the out of town number? Thanks for any help.

Another bit for thought....
Depending on who else in the NL makes the playoffs...

In 2003, tickets to the NLCS could be had in the parking lot of Dolphin Stadium for face value....it might be cheaper to by a plane ticket and rent a car to go to say Arizona for a playoff game then to pay broker price to see one at Wrigley.....BUT...my guess is Mets, Phillies tickets would be just as hot as Cub ones....LA/SD I don't know...SD Smooth Jazz man....any thoughts here?

The best defense is a good offense

Arizona...
... will have available tickets, but fewer than Miami (Miami's capacity, increased for the NLCS, was about 65,000. Arizona's is about 48,000).

Looks
like they're on to us.  All the old tricks that worked in Feb don't seem to be working for these playoff tix...  Anybody have a work-around??

5 windows open...

need some help?

by bgsiggy on Sep 23, 2007 8:48 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes!
In Firefox, I had multiple windows open, but when I try and enter the waiting room with another waiting room window open, it just refreshes the first, and asks me to "be patient".

Ah.
Makes sense. I just only have two installed on my machine right now. Ah, well. No taking chances with an installation 10 min before the opening! :)

We'll be done either way by 10, right?
I have to leave the house at 10.  If they only have 2500 people to pick, so say 5000 to cover disconnects, then they should be able to figure that out in less than 15 minutes, right?
It's a simple question, Doctor: would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs??

starts at 9
will be done at like 0:05, is my guess.
