More teams in the playoffs!

Sign me up for the Bob Costas plan. I want a second wild-card team.

It is time to punish a team for not winning its division. No longer should we have to suffer the tyranny of the Marlin, the agony of the Angel and the insufferability of the Red Sox.

If the season ended today, the AL division winners would be the Red Sox, Indians and Angels. The Wild Cards would be the Yankees and the Tigers.

In the NL, the teams would be the Mets, Cubs and D'Backs and the Wild Cards would be the Phillies and Padres.

On the Monday after the season ends, there would be a one-game playoff between the Yankees-Tigers and the Padres-Phillies. Best record gets home field.

The winning teams would IMMEDIATELY move on to play the division winner with the best record, regardless of division (a stupid rule the NFL had the good sense to abandon years ago.)

Right now, the D'Backs and the Indians would host the Wild Card winner. That would mean Mets-Cubs and Red Sox-Angels.

Let's take it to the polls!
