The votes are in on Bonds ball

In case you have not heard the Bonds record breaking HR ball will indeed by branded with an asterisk prior to going to the hall of fame.  I just keep laughing to myself everytime I think of this.  It makes me want to go back and visit the place again just to see how they actually display it.  With all the amazing artifacts they have displayed will they try to hide it or will they actually acknowledge it to the fans who visit.

I wonder what Barry thinks now of the "idiot" who bought the ball.

Here is the story...

I must confess- I actually voted at least 6 or 7 times for the asterisk and it felt good doing so.

Yeah, defacing history is awesome
While we're at it we should melt down all the Patriots' Super Bowl trophies into the shape of video cassettes, file the face off of Phil Niekro's hall of fame plaque, and grind Mike Schmidt's jersey into a fine white powdery substance.

Is this supposed to send a message or something?  And is that message, "We are completely incapable as a society of maintaining any integrity or perspective on our entertainment?"

If so then good job.

Last time I looked
Landis was stripped of his Tour de France crown for doping and seemingly countless olympians have had their medals stripped for doing the same.  I think marking a stupid little ball is a message worth sending.

Most of your statement is just asinine but especially your quote.  Maintaining perspective on our entertainment- yes people should keep this in mind.  But it is one thing to do so when watching WWE and it is obvious it is a show and fake.  It is quite another thing to throw integrity into a discussion about Barroid Bonds.  Clearly you are a lost Giants fan with nothing important to talk about.

That would be Joe
Niekro that got caught with the file. You mention integrity when talking about Barriod? Gimme a break....

by LT on Sep 26, 2007 8:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Actually meant to type Gaylord Perry there
Not Niekro.

And the integrity is in regards to the audience, not Barry.  Point obviously lost on you there.

Whatever you say
I have to think just like you or I don't know what I am talking about... Anyway, anything that ticks Barroid off is fine with me.
n/t

Think just like me? No.
I'm not even sure we're having the same conversation.

Let me recap for you.

I said, hey, voting to destroy a historical artifact is petty, and shows that we kind of lack integrity and perspective on the situation.

You said, Barry has no integrity!!!

I said, Um, ok, I'm not talking about Barry.  I'm talking about us as an audience.  Also I'm an idiot for getting Phil Niekro and Gaylord Perry mixed up.

You said, Whatever, Barry is dumb!  More like Barroid, am I right folks!?

When in doubt, resort to an ad hominem attack
How is my comparison asinine?  We know those people cheated.  Shouldn't we deface historical records of their success to send a message as well?

Shouldn't Mike Schmidt's 509th home run ball have an asterisk then too?  After all, he does hold the record for home runs by a third baseman.

Floyd Landis and the Olympians you mention were caught cheating.  Barry was not.  There's strong evidence that says he did, but we'll never be able to prove that he did it.  We need to move on and recognize the fact that baseball messed up and make sure it never happens again.

I'm not a "lost Giants fan" I'm just a baseball fan who sees a record simply as just that - a record of what happened on the field, and who wants to move on from the hysterical rhetoric surrounding the steroid scandal and get back to enjoying baseball games.

Officially caught or not
he has been found guilty by the court of public opinion.  Just as OJ was not found guilty but has been hung out to dry by society. Barroid will always be guilty in my eyes (and most other people's) just b/c of the numbers he posted after age 35 and how his body changed.  They tell it all.  As a person who has played sports most of his life and is just a few years past that age I can definitely say there is no way to do it without enhancements.  I don't come close to being able to do the things I did just a few years ago and the aches and pains don't go away as fast either.

BTW- It is still BS to claim it was not cheating b/c it was not in the rule books when it was ILLEGAL in our country.

The only thing I do agree with is your last statement and I also look forward to the day when the games can be played without the cloud hanging over them.

I dont
see how an asterisk on the ball makes any sense, as if all of us are going to forget, and need to be reminded about everything, and i doubt they'd put the ball in the hall anyway with that mark on it.
