First of all, congrats for a division championship!! I didn't think it was possible at the beginning of this year. Hendry, Pinella, and the whole team were amazing. I really don't think any other manager, including Girardi, could have pulled off what Pinella did this year.
Is Rich Hill still going to pitch tommorrow now that we've clinched? It won't change our position heading into the postseason, so I would almost rather throw Gallagher out there and let Hill get some rest. He is after all going to be our #3 pitcher heading into the playoffs... isn't he?
Then have Trax pitch the last game. Leave him in there and don't take him out no matter how ugly it gets, and let the bullpen rest. Again, I would think that after such a long season our starters need the rest.
I'd also think they'd have Blanco catch the next 2 and let Soto/Kendall rest up for the playoffs.
Any ideas as to what the plans are for the next game? I really hope they let Hill get some rest as he seems to do much better when he has a few additional days off.
The next series (likely against AZ) is going to be tough, and with Webb pitching game 1, we will need our #2 and #3 starters sharp. We are the first NL team to clinch and our position won't change despite how the last 2 games go, so wouldn't it be best to use that to our advantage.
We may as well throw our minor leaguers our there since the Reds are playing all of theirs!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts! Go Cubs!
