PNC Park Recommendations?

My wife and I hope to catch the Cubs in Pittsburgh on Sat and Sun.

Any recommedations on where to sit in PNC, where to stay or good restaurants near the Park?

Much thanks to the BCB community.

PNC Fri/Sat
We are going to be at PNC Fri/Sat.  I think for Saturday's game, the lower deck was going fast for face value - when we bought tickets last week, the only seats left for two were near the foul pole in LF, but there were lots of seats in the upper deck.

PNC...
... is a great ballpark, and fairly intimate (it has the lowest seating capacity except for Fenway).

IMO there isn't a bad seat in the house.

I will be there this weekend, too
Al is absolutely correct. PNC is, IMHO, the best of all the newer ballparks. Absolutely beautiful.

If you're looking for a good sandwich, I suggest Primanti Brothers. The french fries are actually part of the sandwich, between the slices of bread. Lotsa calories, but very good.

There is an outlet at PNC, but fresher sandwiches and better selection are available at 10-12 other places around town. Google it and you can check their Web page.

If you're looking to drink, I do believe there is an outlet of Hi-Tops (like the one in Wrigleyville) directly across the street.

PNC is the best park.....
outside of Wrigley.  Not a bad seat in the place.

Marriott Springhill Suites hotel is right across the street from the park.  Nice, clean, reasonably priced hotel and you can't beat the location.

Stay away from Iron City beer (ughhh).  Yuengling beer is great.  Both are local to the area.

I'll be a believer once we beat Capuano. Updated 8/31/07: I guess I can be a believer now!

Stay in Station Square
My wife's from Pittsburgh and we got married here:

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=693

One of the cool things about staying at this hotel is that you can take the Gateway Clipper ship from the Hotel to the ballpark:

http://www.gatewayclipper.com/PITTSBURGHPIRATESPNCPARKSHUTTLE.asp

And Not Bruce Froemming is right.  You'll want to go to Primanti's and you'll want to make sure that you don't go to the ballpark Primanti's... it's not nearly as good.

The seats are all very good.  The ballpark is fantastic - my favorite (along with Camden Yards) outside of Wrigley.

Thoughts...
As far as stadium food goes, though, the buffalo wings at Quaker Steak (there are a couple of them throughout the ballpark) are excellent.  Decent gyros at the food court-area too (lower deck, pretty much behind home plate)...

Ticket-wise, I'd suggest actually going down to the box office at the ballpark (if you can) rather than buying online (at least from the official site).  I've lived in Pittsburgh for 7 years and have probably gone to 20 Pirates-Cubs games, and every time I've tried to buy tickets online, the available seats have been mediocre.  After driving down to the park, though, seats right over the dugouts magically become available and I buy them...

I don't know why this is or if something similar occurs with all MLB teams, but it's always the case.

I'm guessing...
... that the dugout seats at PNC that you are getting, are tickets the Pirates hold back for players or employees. If they're not claimed by a certain time, they get released for general sale.

My thought as well...
can anyone provide any intelligence on when that release might occur?

Thanks to all for the great comments - very helpful!!

Usually...
... sometime on the morning of the game. Hard to tell exactly when, though, I suspect that differs for each team.

more thoughts...
I second the ferry ride to the ballpark from Station Square.  Primanti Bros. sandwiches are great, but get them early 'cuz the lines can be long.  Be sure to check out the statues and exhibit in the lower level near right field honoring Paige, Gibson and other famous Negro Leagues stars from the Grays and Crawfords.  Hopefully you'll catch a fireworks show as well.

PNC is beautiful.
Yuengling is a fine beer. Despite the temptation presented by the pirogi race, DO NOT GET THE PIROGIS.

I'm from Pittsburgh...
I attend all of the games when the Cubs are in town. I'll be going to all three and am fine with just getting the $9 dollar bleacher seats.

The only problem with those is that it gets really hot during the day because you are right in the sun.

If you were only planning to go to one or two you could get the infield box if they are still available. Don't be fooled by the low price though. They are all good seats.
