Booing, completely classless according to some Cardinals fans

Was reading the game thread from Viva El Birdos from yesterday.  Of course there was rejoicing when Dempster gave up the 3 run HR, but the commentary following regarding the booing of Dempster and defense of Zambrano's comments were quite appalling.  made for interesting reading anyway.  Apparently it's OK to boo Kip Wells off the field after getting knocked around the other day, but not OK for showing disappointment regarding your closer's failure to close out an important game like yesterday or to boo your star pitcher ($90mil) for not showing up to pitch the last 5 starts.  As discussed on here many places, booing certainly has it's place and is certainly the right of the fans, when done appropriately so.  Interesting commentary from the game thread as posted below:

Dumpster hasn't blown a save in months...
...so naturally flub fans boo him to the dugout.

Flubs fans are right there with mets, yanks and bosox fans as the least classy in all baseball

Didn't he blow one
right as he came off the disabled list in the last couple of weeks?

Too bad I wasn't at home today watching the game.  Dang.

I know a several nice ones, . . .
. . . fine people and  fairly good baseball fans, but this statement of yours, IJR, is too often true:

"Flubs fans are right there with mets, yanks and bosox fans as the least classy in all baseball"

It was almost enough to make you feel sorry for Zambrano the other day. Earlier this week I had to explain that mess to my nephew up by Chicago. I found myself not completely disagreeing with Z's initial expressions of being hurt and betrayal by the fans. I found myself completely disagreeing with the part of his next-day apology in which Z said Cubs fans were the best fans in the world.

Almost, but not quite, sorry for Zambrano.

The day I take etiquette advice from a Cards fan
Is the day I want you to chop my head off with a rusty butter knife.

I have warned you repeatedly...
... about your hostile and inappropriate comments about the Cardinals and their fans, via email.

I will say this only one more time, and this time in public so that everyone can read it:

It is fine to treat the Cardinals as our rivals, want to beat them every single time we play them. We all do.

Namecalling and stuff like this WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ON THIS SITE. Last warning.

No, I'm not taking the heat for this one
I will not be directed on how, when or if to boo my team by fans of ANY other team, let alone our biggest rival and let alone a fan base that boos Kip Wells crossing the street.

I didn't call any Cards fans names. I just simply said their opinion on this matter is worthless to me.

Ban me for this if you will, Al. I've backed down when I've crossed the line. This time, I don't feel I did.

al, i do not know of...
...the other instances prompting you to "scold" lancaster99, but i find it difficult to understand how his comments, leading to your latest scolding, can be defined as egregious or even remotely inappropriate.

btw, how do lancaster99's comments differ from the incessant  degradation of yankee and met fans on this site? must be acceptable due to your disdain for the east coast!

I think I was...
... reacting to some of his comments in the Ankiel diary. He has an irrational hatred of anything and everything relating to the Cardinals.

This takes the "rivalry" thing too far.

Fair enough.
But please chill, Al. All he's saying is he won't accept etiquette lessons from fans who did the same thing they are now criticizing. I can't argue with that and it is nor demeaning or hostile either, IMHO.

Not very original (Robinhood rusty spoon)...
...but it'll do.  A little extreme but I think 95% of all cubs fans would share that same sentiment.

My other comment about this is...
... I'd imagine that blowing games in the way the Cubs have recently, or blowups like Zambrano had the other day, would also be booed by Cardinal fans if their team had such things happen to them.

Every team's fans do it.

Whining
Unfortunately, we have become a team of whiners.

Yesterday, during the Cubs game broadcast, they showed a guy on TV, after the Dodgers went ahead, sitting in the stands with an expression of disgust, holding a sign that said "Cubs fans don't boo". That's the most stupid sign I have ever seen. I suggest we (and the players) pay more attention at what's going on in the field than at the cheers or jeers that come from the stands. If that fan would rather express himself with signs, fine. But I would rather hear some boos than read signs all over the park about how a particular player "sucks" or is a "loser", or why the fans "stink" or "ruin it".

This was exactly my response in
Dartmouth's diary. It has been noted than many people dislike booing but there is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT stuff going on with this team than being booed.  They are losing games that need to be won, period.

I am sick of this freakin booing crap...oh well, fine, we are the WORST fans in baseball.  Classless, and mean hearted, and not loyal in any way.  We are worse than any other fanbase in baseball and for that matter, all sports.

Can we now focus on the fact that this team has rolled over to too many teams during a crucial pennant race?  Seriously.

I think
it is ridiculous that Cardinal fans are assuming this role of preaching about our classless society over here.

Simple matter of the pot calling the kettle black.

Awww, that's sad.

Well, they are the best fans in baseball....
I've always thought if someone had to tell you something like that, it usually meant they were lacking what they were trying to promote...

as far as I know it,
atleast our players are playing the game the RIGHT way, unlike some Cardinals in particular...

GEE I GOT IT
let's go through other teams sites trying to find their low points and post them in a diary on the site! yeah, that's AWESOME MAN!

cmon, have some class. some of you are DEAD WRONG on the ankiel thing and need to get your facts straight.

al, you are a classy guy and i appreciate your backing of our fans.

lancaster, go back to kindergarten.

Are you kidding me?!
I was interested reading your game thread and found it fun to read other fan's perspectives .  At the same time, when you see some mixed and controversial statements as made above, are we wrong to comment on it?! that's classless? c'mon, all of our skin is thicker than that isn't it?   one of my closest friends is a die hard Cardinal's fan and there is mutual disagreement between us all of the time-not at all threatening our mutual respect for each other.   I don't know that Ankiel was mentioned in this thread.

by LuisSalazar on Sep 7, 2007 11:01 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree that some posters are...
taking the Ankiel thing out of context and proportion.

However, after the news today there goes the book and the movie. Ankiel's comeback is not a "feel good story" anymore.

cards
why are cardinal fans so worried about the cubs?they,re kind of like sox fans i guess

by NOMAR on Sep 8, 2007 4:57 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

In many ways..............
.........you are absolutely correct.

They set up websites, wear t-shirts, etc. all in the name of blasting the Cubs.

They call the Cubs "chokers" when in reality the Cubs are rarely in a position to choke.

Gee, you'd think the Cubs were the team that owned all those WS titles.

Ultimately, they are a society filled with envy, mainly because they support a two-bit town that is the beneficiary of each toilet flush in the Quad Cities.
