Cubs locker room sale

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to go to this year's Cubs Convention. I know there must be some Cubs collectors out there so I was wondering if anyone out there went to the locker room sale? Any good deals? Any unusual items? I guess I'm just looking for a summary of what occurred. It's always been a favorite stop of mine at the convention.

There were...
... a ton of open, used champagne bottles, presumably from the locker room celebration in Cincinnati. No, I didn't buy one.

I was in......
the locker room after the Cubs clinched the widcard in 1998 against the Giants and picked up a few champagne corks from the floor which I still have. I know it's crazy, but being the locker room after the win was a memorable event and I wanted something to remember it by.

Bottles
I don't know what Korbel goes for, but I don't think it's more than 20 bucks a bottle, which is what they charged for the empties.  But the way I looked at it is that I was effectively paying for the celebration champagne after the fact - and I am totally fine with that.

Plus, I was in Cincinnati for the clincher (though not in the locker room) so it's a good souvenir.  I had to take the precaution of taking it out of my bag going through TSA on the way back, though -

TSA....
When I was going through security today, TSA asked if I had candles in my bag.  Turned out it was all of the baseballs that I had backed in there.  The security guy was pretty excited, telling me about how he went to Cubs games as a kid....

Pretty Much the Same
I had hoped to spend more time in there, but got pulled in many different directions.  From what I saw, the good stuff was expensive, but not unreasonably so.  I was interested in Soriano's jersey, but wasn't there when it went up for auction.  They ought to have some kind of email/Blackberry system that lets you know what the next few items will be so you can get down there in time.  They also auctioned off the Budweiser signs from the locker rooms at the division clincher, which went for fairly reasonable prices.  The most ridiculous item I saw auctioned was Lou Piniella's dirty socks.

The lineup cards available weren't nearly as good as in past years - I guess Lou must keep them himself or something.  However, I lucked into the lineups from both games of the September doubleheader in St. Louis I attended - I'm thinking of having them framed with that awesome photo of Soriano I posted here taken from the Cardinals Club.

Sorry I had to miss it
Those lineup cards you got sound great. Nothing better than being able to say you attended the game. I've noticed in past years that the prices were pretty reasonable (except for a few items from Maddux etc. which sold for sky high prices, but I guess that's what you have to expect).

A few years ago I was able to get a batting helmet ($25) and a few nice line up cards. Also bought a Derrick Lee name plate from his locker which is a pretty neat little item. I've always been tempted to bid on those suitcases which sometimes hold some pretty interesting things.

My son Mark...
... bought a pair of Cliff Floyd's shoes for $25.

Hey, he's a kid. No accounting for tastes.

That sounds
like a great addition to his collection. (And the price was right)

Line up Cards
I too was disappointed by the availability of them.  I bought one of the printed ones for a game went to with my dad just as a memento but last year there were tons more available.
