Cubs Baby Names...

My wife and I are expecting a baby.  We don't know the gender, nor do we want to.

I'm lobbying for a Cubs themed baby name.

The wife has vetoed the following names:

Ryne
Addison
Andre
Grace
Sammy
Mordecai (this broke my heart)

She seems warm to Ivy if it's a girl.

Any suggestions Cub fans?

What's wrong with Grace?
That's a fine name for a girl.

Agreed...
...but my wife thinks it's too close to the TV show "Will and Grace."

Addison is my fav, but apparently that's a character on "Grey's Anatomy."

I'm still holding out for Hee-Seop.

Ya know
Those shows probably will probably be a distant memory by the time the kid reaches grade school. I should know, my name is Roper.

I suppose you might have a hard time getting her to go along with Banks.

And I know you don't want to know the sex of the baby, but it's a boy. Congrats!

Lee
could work for either boy or girl.  However, it all depends on what your last name is, and I doubt you want that splashed all over the internet.

definitely the rivalry thing
I was only about 9-10 years old, so I wasn't exactly checking her out, but if memory serves, she was a typical tom-boy type - blonde hair, freckles, smart mouth, and always tagging around her big brother.

I never had a sister but I can see where that type of situation would be infuriating to a young boy trying to hang with the "cool kids" in the neighborhood.  My little brother tried to follow me around all the time, and that usually resulted in me beating the snot out of him, but he'd always come back for more.  Must have been genetic - my older brother did the same thing to me...  ;-)

I just had a girl in November. Wanted to name her Addison. Overruled by the wife.

I think you should name her Rocky Cherry...although that will guarantee her for stripperdom...

I didn't even
try to give my daughter a Cubs name.  Actually, it didn't even cross my mind.  I guess I'm not that ill with my obsession.  :-)

You could always try Anson for a boy.  Yeah, there's that whole racism thing, but it's a good Cub name.

Chance would be another boy's name.

I'm sure Jessica would recommend "Maddux" for either gender, although it's usually spelled "Maddox" as a first name.  That spelling would be close enough for me and might give your wife a little distance.  It's usually a boys name, but my niece is best friends with a little girl named Maddox.

For a girl you could try Gabrielle (or Gabby for short) in tribute to Gabby Harnett.

I'm surprised she didn't go for Addison.  That's a trendy name right now.

If you don't know it, let me recommend this website and the book that goes with it, the Baby Name Wizard.  It's a lot of fun even if you aren't expecting.

Oh, it's your life and more power to you, but I think that whole "not knowing the sex" thing is crazy.  My daughter had a whole closet full of clothes and a tasteful but feminine stroller (in lavender, not pink) two months before she was born.  I'd hate to have to shop for all that crap now.  I can't even get a shower, let alone a chance to go shopping for baby things.

It's a girl! Born 1-18-08. 2246 PST. 8lbs. 1 oz.

many thanks...
Congrats on your girl!  Thanks for the link and the suggestions.

We have twin 17 month old boys, so clothes aren't all that big of a problem.  Cubs onesies generally don't have to be pink.

I think she doesn't like Addison because of the whole Grey's Anatomy thing.  Damn that show.

Hector...
...hmmm...

I was at an Iowa Cubs game, must have been 1992 or 91 and watched Hector Villanueva play.  He had the whole stadium rolling when he stopped a hotdog vendor outside of the dugout and purchased three hotdogs.  I couldn't see if he actually ate them or if he purchased them for hungry teammates.  I'm guessing he at least ate 2 of them.

Gotta believe that went on the scouting report.

Congrats
My dogs are named Ernie and Gracie, and my big orange cat is Sutcliffe, but I had a hard time convincing my wife of any Cub names for our son.  I tried Ryne, but she didn't like it.  I almost had her on Patrick Ronald, but I lost that too.

My sister seemed to have it made; she married a guy with the last name Clark. They almost named the first born Addison, but at the last minute he made the connection - he's a dirty Sox fan and vetoed the name.  I almost had him convinced that Kent would be a good name for thier son, but he caught that one pretty late too.

This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.
