There is still talk...
... about Bonds to the A's. I guess he'd be a fit there, but with the cloud over him, would it really be worth it?

Eh.
I'm sure there's more than a few A's fans who have bought into the cult of personality around Billy Beane and are willing to go along with it. Then there's some Bonds fans in the area who will probably go to watch him play, and some Bonds haters who will go to see how many batteries they can smuggle into the Colliseum. And then there's probably some A's fans who are also Raiders fans, and I don't know if we can assign normal human notions of morality to them.

And since Billy is essentially trying to chase the Cleveland Spiders here, Barry may be the only attendance draw the As have next year. So it's still not a bad idea for them.

Yep, not a bad idea
As long as he doesn't take playing time away from someone who deserves it and has a future then why not?  The guy can still hit and moving to DH would help keep him in the lineup.  He'd have to be willing to play cheap though and that's not a given, though I bet he will so he can try to finish with 3,000 hits.  If it doesn't hurt anyones development then why not?  Get him cheap, draw some fans, maybe win an extra game or two.  Can't hurt.

Well...
I don't see the A's doing this.  Mostly because I don't see them shelling out the money for Barry.  He's a defensive liabilty and a likely DH.  That's Jack Cust's job.

Why sign an aging controversial slugger when you are rebuilding and playing out the string in a crappy stadium?

Bonds would fit in best with a contender who could get him 120 games at DH.  Who knows, if the WSox trade Konerko and put Thome at first?

(I know the WSox aren't contenders, but no one told Kenny Williams.)

Attendance.
The A's are close enough to San Francisco that they actually have people who like Barry Bonds in driving range of their stadium. No other team will touch him, so they can get him for (relatively) cheap. They have enough salary coming off the books that they can afford to add him, especially on a one-year deal.

I really think....
.....that unless Barry goes to a contender he retires.  He wants 3000 hits YES, but he has to want a ring.

Wait a minute, Ill argue my own point, this is a guy who juiced to pad his OWN stats.  So if Oakland makes a respectable offer I think he will take it.
