Mark DeRosa Good To Go

That's pretty much the entire story, but if you want to read more, click here.

On Monday, he faced strength and conditioning coach Tim Buss in a simulated game and worked out in the rain at Wrigley Field. He also practiced in right field and at second base on Tuesday during the Cubs' workout.

"I faced probably the toughest pitcher I faced all year in the strength coach throwing a sim game to us," he said of Monday's session. "I don't see there being any problem."

So it won't be a game-day decision?

"Hopefully not," DeRosa said. "If I could take fly balls in the pouring rain on this field [Monday], I don't assume there being a problem."

good to know.

i was pretty confident he’d be ready for game one.

Whew

That is a HUGE relief. He’s been one of our most clutch players this year – or at least it feels that way.

Guessing he'll be at 2nd

just to minimize the strain. Plus, I read somewhere that Fukudome was taking BP in the round with other starters yesterday…makes sense to have his defense in there.

Call me crazy

But I have a feeling Fukudome may come up big somewhere in this series, whether it is a clutch hit, or a great catch in the field.

I agree.

It’s just a feeling, but in the last week or so of the season he appeared to start hitting a little better (.815 OPS over his final nine regular season games).

I've been thinking...

…that for the last month, and maybe my timing was just a littlle off. This guy has too much capability and is too smart a player, to not get it going again.

The other factor is this; his defense in RF is going to be magnified in this series, because it is probably going to be low scoring.

+1

I like him at second for at least the first game. It’s time for pitching and defense now. When the white sox win a 1-0 game, you know it’s time to get serious and hunker down.

Good

DeRosa has been solid all year. Yes I like the fact that Dome has great defense, but I see a big hit out him also.

Phew

Plop plop fizz fizz oh what a relief it is.

Dome Coming Out of Funk

That 2-run HR on Saturday was an encouraging sign that Dome is coming out of his slump. The Cubs have been a little on the thin side when it comes to good left-handed bats. DeRosa is better defensively at second than in right. It’s good to have DeRo healthy. He won’t have to run as much playing second base defensively. Of course, I hope DeRosa gets some work running the bases.

Fantastic.

We would’ve really missed him at second and in the lineup (and right, if Kosuke goes all awful on us).

Margin for error

This way we still need Fukudome to do well but if DeRo was out we would be really dependent on him.
