But 2 runs is not much for this team. Really, this game should have been tied two innings ago with the way Demps came out of the gate. Way too much nerves. Just plug away and tie it first, then we will talk about getting on top again.

I'm serious
Having one of your best pitchers limp through halof of the game doesn’t exactly lead to a relaxed offense. I mean, I would be thrilled if the offense could recover the way they did after Zambrano’s last start; but this being the first game of the post season, I don’t see it happening.
I didn't like this ump from the moment he was announced.
Someone last night posted ump ratings and this guy has one of the tightest strike zones in the league. And with Demp’s effective wildness, I didn’t think it would bode well. But I thought the Cubs would be more patient with Lowe.

Lol whatever dude
He has 1 bad AB tonight and as soon as he has it you JUMP on him, jeez its not like Derrek Lowe is a good ground ball pitcher or anything.
This isn't new for tonight - it's been all year.
He’s lost his power and his batting eye – he simply can’t go the other way with an outside pitch, and he’s not recognizing breaking stuff anymore, causing him to pound everything to SS.

Who would you nominate as a replacement?
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
For 2009? Teixiera, obviously.
But really, there are plenty of hitters around the league who would be an improvement. Adding a guy like Teix would mean finding a taker for Lee’s salary, which is probably impossible.
Raul Ibanez would be a major improvement.

Pshaw - Marshall is better than Hill.
And in the Teix scenario, Lee would be traded. That’s a payroll-neutral situation — Demp and Lee out, Teix and Marshall in.

I'm sure that they do see that.
It’s going to be tough to move an eight-figure 1B with no power, but there’s not a whole lot of cash left on that deal, and there’s the possibility that someone will take him.
I mean, Hendry moved Hundley. If he can do that, he can do anything.

And you're right, of course.
It’s clear that the scouts do see that Lee can’t hit outside pitches and breaking stuff – because he’s seen a steady diet of it since May, and has utterly failed to adjust.

Gold Glove defense at any position is never over rated.
You obviously don’t pay much attention to the games & the runs Lee has saved for us. His glove has kept the Cubs in games for a few years now.

I'll absolutely grant that.
He’s been very good defensively – he’s won 2 GG and counting for the Cubs. But his defense has slipped this season, (9 E), and he’s not going to improve with age.
And, as I’m sure we agree, 1B is one of the least important defensive positions. They’re all important, but 1B is a place to hide a big bat/mediocre glove guy, if you have to.
