Go...Brewers?

Feels odd to say after this regular season, but I think I’m in the majority in saying I’d rather play them in the NLCS.

I don't know

I think the Brewers are riding a bigger “high” right now than the Phillies. If they won the first round of the playoffs, that could be a great motivator for them. In the playoffs, its not necessarily the best teams that win, its the ones that get hot at the right time.

I may be in the minority, but I think I may rather see the Cubs face the Phils. Perhaps Lidge scares me a bit, but their rotation isn’t very good past Hamels. Their line-up is pretty scary but good pitching negates good hitting.

That lineup scares me, too.

The Brewers & Phillies are both good teams. The Brewers’ bullpen is weak and their rotation in shambles with Sheets out. That said, I hope Milwaukee wins.

Plus

we’ve played CC exceptionally well two of the three times we’ve faced him.

Yeah, talk about mixed emotions.

A bitter part of me still wants the Brewers to fail but, undoubtedly, they would be the weaker opponent (on paper). Aside from the Brewers questionable rotation beyond CC and highly suspect bullpen, the Cubs have faced them many more times than they have the Phillies, so I’d assume the scouting report would be much more detailed.

Trust me on this one.

The Cubs have plenty of scouts at the Phillies/Brewers series.

Wouldn't the Phillies be that hot motivated team, then, if they win the series?

Seems whoever wins it will go into the NLCS pumped up, just like the winner of our series.

My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.

The Phillies clinched a week ago

The Brewers were left for dead in the water and they won the wild card on the last day of the season. I just think that the Brewers are riding a bigger “high”, as I stated above, than the Phillies are and do not want to see their momentum gain by beating the Phillies.

I think the Phillies are the favorite in the series and so they are expected to win. If the Brewers win, they will have defied the odds not just with the Wild Card but then in the NLDS as well. I just don’t want to see the Brewers be this year’s Rockies.

Doubtful

There is a certain thing called playoff and World Series money that Yost still has an interest in and undoubtedly he would be voted a full share. His interest will be for Milwaukee to win without a doubt.

Do managers and coaches get part of the players' shares?

Anyone know?

Yes...

…I believe they do, as well as the trainers etc.

This is huge for the guys like the trainers if the team wins it all. They basically make more money with their playoff share, than they do with their entire salary.

Not sure who I'd rather see win

I think the Phillies are going to come out on top in this series though. I just think they are the superior team and will ultimately just play better.

As far as this first game goes, I see it going to the Phillies. Gallardo is a fly ball pitcher and Philadelphia is not a place you want to be giving up fly balls…especially those of the long variety. Hamels is a tough lefty who actually seems to do better against righties due to his awesome change up. I just don’t see this one swinging the Brewers way.

by rambler19 on Oct 1, 2008 9:45 AM CDT   0 recs

personally i don't care who wins..

I just want it to go 5 games so either CC comes back on 3 days rest and Hamels have to pitch game 5..

This has the potential..

…to be a very strange series.

I can see the Phillies having relatively easy wins in games CC doesn’t pitch, but getting shut down by the big guy. This thing could go the full five games, but the run differential could be huge in the Phillies favor.

The Brewers ineptitude on defense and the difference between Torres and Lidge make me a definite Brewer fan for the next few days.

Brewers, Brewers, Brewers

Most of the reasons have already been mentioned. I’d rather face Salomon Torres than Brad Lidge. I’d rather hit sinking line drives to Braun and Hart than Werth and Victorino. I’d rather have Wrigley and WNorth than just Wrigley.

I'm rooting for the Brew Crew as well

all the Phillies strength is LH hitting and since we have a primarily RH staff, i’d rather avoid them

I’d say the Brewers have a better rotation than people are giving credit for here

Sabathia greater than Hamels
Gallardo = Myers
Bush = Moyer
Suppan = Blanton

I still would rather face the Brewers than the Phillies, but I don’t think its a HUGE discrepancy in talent

I'm rooting for a 5 game series with game #5 going about 22 innings...

and at least a dozen players on the winning team sustaining “groin pulls”. (Why is is the word “sustain” is ALWAYS used with “groin pulls”?)

And then the team bus breaks down on the trip to the airport to fly to Chicago.

They have to undergo full body cavity searches because some player made a “smuggling” joke …AND their luggage gets lost.

It looks like

Live Internet video feeds from mlb.com for the games are available overseas, but you can only get the audio feeds domestically. Probably has to do with TBS/Fox not wanting to give up a single set of eyeballs if they can help it.

You would think they would look around and

see how the other leagues control their content. Just pick and choose from the best. That would be a logical solution and we know that MLB has never considered doing business that way.
