bill murray's take on the '08 season, from Letterman

"being a cub fan shows you how to live life"

Star-divide

hi all,

i haven't posted on here before, but i thought i needed to share this with fellow cubs fans who may not have seen it. i've been feeling empty for days now after witnessing game 3 of the sweep firsthand (i live in LA). it's like i've had a dark cloud over my head for days, similar to '03 (well, similar but unique in its own way). whatever the case, i've been searching for answers, and i found bill murray's take on the season and what it is to be a cubs fan comforting. sorry if this has been discussed already, again, i'm new to posting here.

the cubs-relevant part occurs between 6:27 - 8:48 of the video:

darnit!

i’m not used to this format. my apologies! i just saw the SNL cameo. good stuff.

watching this letterman appearance again, i think his vulnerability really touches home. most of the time you see bill murray speak, he’s unshakably witty and can be quite sarcastic. here, he seems very forthcoming and honest. that resonates deeply with me.

man this postseason has me messed up!

Great comments by Bill

great philosophy.

This is only the beginning....Lou Pinella end of '07 season and Chicago Transit Authority (the band when they were really good).

Bill says no booing!

i’m perfectly aligned with Bill Murray’s thoughts on the Cubs, and have mentioned numerous times how things have changed since ’03

Bill Murray has the right attitude!

He was great on Letterman. He sums up what being a Cub fan is all about.

Also on the SNL Thursday Update show William Murray asked the question during the debate, Will the Cubs win the World Series? It was priceless!

The sad look on his face when the Obama and McCain characters said the Cubs would not win is how we all felt after the Cubs lost to the Dodgers. Bill Murray, I think is the Cubs No 1 fan after Ron Santo.

I recorded this show and will archive it to view again and again.

This might start a new thread here

but ultimate celebrity Cubs fan? I would think Bill Murray would be up there. I don’t think that was acting when the faux Obama and McCain answered the question. I think that would be his honest to God reaction if someone told him that. Whether it be Bears, Illini, Cubs, Bill Murray tends to always be there.

One thing about Murray...

… is that he IS a genuine born-and-raised Cubs fan, not like a lot of celebrity hangers-on.

Another well-known actor who would qualify in this category is Joe Mantegna, who wrote the original “Bleacher Bums”.

Joe Mantegna

narrated “This Old Cub,” too, IIRC.

Yes, he did, and...

…. normally, I wouldn’t care for a celebrity doing that sort of thing. But Mantegna lived and died with the Cubs as a kid like all of us did. He’s come by his Cub fandom honestly. Because of that, I truly enjoyed hearing him narrate “This Old Cub” — because I knew when hearing his voice that he really felt what we feel from the heart.

He was a lot more philosophical than I expected.

I thought he’d be making all sorts of self-deprecating snarky jokes…uh, like me.

Not surprised in the least

Bill Murray is 100% class and a great human being.

This guy understands what it means to be a Cubs fan.

BILL MURRAY---FROM THE HEART

Wow, Bill is a hard act to follow so I won’t even try …The post season failure hurts more than 2003 for me . If they could not do it with this team what team could do it ??? For the faithful fans that make the games at Wrigley or watch/listen to every game we wonder when ……..

Bill is a great guy

I spoke with Bill at the Wednesday night Mets game for a quick minute, He was also kind enough to sign 3 baseballs for my son (Cub fan) and 2 of his friends, (yes Mets fans)

Bill took the time to speak with my son about the Cubs and his last words to him were This is our year and keep the faith.

Well we know its not our year, but Bill made my sons night !!!

Oh we won in extra’s that helped too, but maybe it would of been better to loose

I've been bleeding double blue Cubbies & NY Rangers
