Am I the only Cubs fan who just likes to watch baseball no matter who is playing?

first post to probably the last NLCS game this year

Tommie Agee was out.

Well not no matter WHO is playing

If this was Cardinals- Mets I don’t think I would watch but sure I watch most any baseball I can. Tonight is off special interest as I expect
a certain old codger on the Dodgers to get in the game at some point.

He just might.

When I saw him warming up last game I couldn’t help but feel happy for him. He’s a great guy, a great pitcher and I’m glad he spent part(s) of his career with the Cubs.

i like watching baseball no matter who's playing....

but i’m still a little burned out from watching the cubs…every time i see the dodgers, i think how the cubs should be there.

+1

I love the game baseball, but MAN would it be better if it were the Cubs.

The only good thing about this game is I'm not stressed

about the Cubs can find a way to lose it. It’s kind of fun to watch a game with no skin in it.

Yup, It's really an aweful feeling

Knowing the Cubs had the team to be there right now… Watching Billingsley get lit up is really pissing me off.. Why the hell couldn’t the Cubs do this?

cubs hitters lost their patience at the plate

swinging at pretty much everything will always give the advantage to the pitcher. I don’t want it to sound as though Soriano was completely at fault, but he swung at everything and set the tone for the series. We need to do something at the leadoff spot, but once again, Soriano is not the only person to blame as it was a utter failure by the whole team.

This is a pretty big deal and I want to make sure I’ve got it exactly the way I want it to be.

Think I'll be watching two dudes chat in New York tonight.

Then switch over to the Phillies winning. Yes I Can!

For some reason

For some reason I get this mental image of Obama and McCain calling each other dude and such. Gives me giggles.

On the subject of the game, I have a very good internet friend and her husband who love the Phillies as much as I love the Cubs and if the situation was reversed they’d be rooting for the Cubs so go PHILLIES!

If there is any bright spot at all to the situation is Cubs/Phillies would have really divided our group because we are both original members of the group so most are close to both of us.

Thngs of worth are worth fighting for regardless of the odds.

Dodgers fans are garbage...

the stadium isn’t even filled up, and the broadcasters say it’s probably due to traffic. I personally think that’s bull honkey and it’s more of their fans giving up on them.

Does anyone recognize the guy behind home plate

who had been at every game wearing a suit and a gold tie accompanied by 3 playboy-bunny-looking girls to his right? Got to be some movie producer type. I think he is the Dodger version of the pink hat guy.

i'm kinda hopin mlb gets screwed by having the Phils and the Rays in the World Series

It’ll be one of the lowest rated series in the history of mlb, which will hopefully force mlb’s hand to reform the sport for the better. I’m hoping to see the Division series become a best of seven series, more power for instant replay because calls are still getting called incorrectly, better playoff times, and other things i haven’t thought of yet.

by aznsensation on Oct 15, 2008 8:47 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't think a 7 game divison series

does anything for me… How about not penalizing the highest division winner by not letting them play the wild card if it comes out of their own division. I feel very strongly that had the Cubs played the Brewers in the first round the players would have been much looser and played much better.

by imknowdummy on Oct 15, 2008 8:50 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i agree with you

but i do like a 7 game series because it slightly makes it more likely that the best team will win the series and move on rather than the very hot and more lucky team to move on. Not that the Cubs wouldn’t have lost to the Dodgers anyway, but I strongly believe it wouldn’t have added as much pressure on them after losing the first game. And also, it adds extra revenue and gives fans more of chance to actually go to a game.

by aznsensation on Oct 15, 2008 8:55 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Really?

Why do you feel that way? Just because they played more games against the Brewers?

I can understand the rationale behind not allowing teams in the same division to meet in the first round. The Cubs and Brewers played nearly the same schedule over 162 games (-1 for the Cubs) and the Cubs won. Pitting the teams in a 5 game series immediately following the season would nullify this.

That the Cubs dodged a bullet when he decided to sign with L.A. a few years ago. The Cubs do not need Furcal in any way, shape or form.

I WANT Furcal

‘s HEAD ON A PLATTER. As some of you might remember I was the strongest Anti-Edmonds person here and while he did do Ok for the Cubs I STILL HATE HIM and it NEVER had anything to do with his being a Cardinal or his me first personality, nope I hate him because he played for SHIT with the Padres at the beginning of the year and was in my opinion PERSONALLY responsible for costing Maddux at least two wins. I don’t forgive or forget. My two Maddux buddies figured that between the errors and the bad fielding ( missed DP etc)
Maddux had to get SEVEN outs in that inning. I am sick to my stomach and I wish I could get drunk but I don’t like liquor enough to drink that much. I am so PISSED. I had a bad enough time with this series because I loved Maddux but didn’t like the Dodgers. I am GLAD the Phillies won but it should not have happened that way.

Phils in the WS with the Rays….come on baby….make MLB sweat and get nervous, I want to see changes in baseball.

How is a Rays vs Phillies WS

Going to force Bud Selig’s hand at sweeping ractical change that you are thinking you’ll see?

by Galvan316 on Oct 15, 2008 10:10 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I was thinking the same thing.

If anything, I think he’s gunning for that. To have a low-salary, feel-good team like the Rays make it; and a heavy-populated city in Philadelphia make it, should draw decent ratings. I guess it would be better if their cities were farther apart, but I think this is a win for Selig.

Too make sensation for that Asian, I’m guessing.

Too much*

My hands are shaking in jealousy for the Phils. Ugh, it’s gonna suck being at Penn State if they win this thing.

by NittanyCub on Oct 15, 2008 10:48 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

low market teams playing in the world series will have very few people actually wanting to watch...

Just like in 2006 when the Cards beat the Tigers in the world series, did anybody even watch that? I don’t see how Rays and Phillies will be anything different. I’m hoping that incredibly low ratings will make baseball look at flaws that they have in the game, ie playoff format and opponents, better use of instant replay, and maybe finding a way to bring baseball back to the olympics. Baseball will want to look at how to get interest back into the sport after it loses a significant amount of fans due to low market teams. In my mind, MLB will not do anything unless their hand is forced.

by aznsensation on Oct 16, 2008 4:38 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The only way a Rays/Phillies WS gets ratings...

… is if they have compelling, close games and it goes seven.

No WS has gone seven games since 2002, and this postseason has, as I wrote the other day, been boring and one-sided.

I wouldn’t bet on “compelling and close”.

Could BOTH be throwing perfect games and the ratings would still suck.

This sucks!!!

I don’t need to go into why. I can’t get to sleep because of people honking horns and shooting off fireworks.

I still not over how the Cubs played against the Dodgers and how the Phillies just rolled over them.

I feel a bit happy

for no particular reason. When the last 4 teams were set, I was hoping for a Phils-Rays series. Good for the Phils with their core of guys that (at least I) can’t hate: Howard, Utley, Rollins, Moyer. And the Rays deserve all they have accomplished this year, sans their fans. If the Rays win, it’ll be redemption for the players, not the crappy fanbase. And the Phils are overdue, aren’t they?

They are looking for a bat in return. Apparently Cox doesn't like the guy.

I couldn't even speculate what we'd have to send them in return, but I think he would be a good fit given his low salary, his productive bat, his position, and his age. I don't care if he's a jerk if he makes the team win more.
