Kevin Foster 1969 - 2008
I was shocked and sad to hear of his passing. I didn't even know he had cancer, albeit a very rare form of cancer. I'll always remember him as a competitor on the mound. He stood out (to me at least) as a pitcher with a lot of talent and promise. It is a shame that arm problems robbed him of playing time in 1998 when the Cubs won the wild card.
I guess, since he grew up in Evanston and attended Cubs games as a kid, I'm glad that he had a chance to live out his dream

This may come as a shock to you Al,
but not everyone logs on to BCB daily and reads everything written. I’m glad he posted this because 1) I don’t live in Chicago so didn’t see it in local papers, 2) wouldn’t have known to search for the news here or anywhere else because again, I didn’t know it occurred and 3) am now reminded that I need to check in with BCB more often or I’ll continue to miss things like this. This third point is a positive for you and your site.
I’m not trying to be a bitch but your comment was rude and falls in line with the other regulars here that like to bully and dismiss those of us who are casual visitors and observers. I will NEVER put up a fanpost on this site because God forbid anyone think it’s not ‘worthy’ they get made fun of, yelled at, told that it’s old news or any other way to tell them that their thoughts aren’t welcome. I’m not thin skinned and recognize that people can say what they want but the pretentious, elitest attitude here gets more and more prevalent each season. Why not just let it go instead of having to comment?
There, I vented. I love this site but get SICK OF seeing posters kicked.

Are you SURE you're not thin skinned?

The thing is this
When AL created this site, he said he was going to try to control the multiple posts problems that plagued places like the cubs.com forum. When someone thinks he or she has something new to post, they could easily do a search to see if someone already brought up the subject

This is all I'm asking.
In the case of someone like Kevin Foster, if people think the discussion should continue after the post would have fallen off the list, give it a recommendation — if a post winds up on the rec list, it will stay on the front page longer.

Well spoken
I live in an area far removed from Chicago, and have been a Cubs fan since before many on this blog were born. That being said, I will never initiate another Fanpost on this site.
There are various levels of acceptance in play on this site. I never was much of a politician. I like what Al has going here. I have admired Al and some other people who frequent BCB and their baseball acumen ever since ASBCC. I used an offline newsreader there, and it posted my name as “Right”.
Been watching you folks for a long time now, and I talk about this site whenever I meet anyone from Chicago. But I have seen many posters get treated as “less than” here, and there are varying levels of reaction thereto.
But the truth is, this is the only thing that gets me through the offseason after the World Series is done. Henceforth probably I will just “listen”, unless something spectacularly in favor of the Cubs happens, like Sabathia or something.

my take
I have said this before but will repeat if I may——if ANYTHING cubs related happens—almost 99.9% of the time its posted on this site within minutes. This is the biggest good cubs blog on the internet to my knowledge. So if you read a story and it says anything over 5 minutes old—its here guaranteed!
I BELIEVE!!!! GO CUBBIES!!!!!!!!!!
It may have alrady been posted but
what the hell else is there to talk about right now. Stupid never going to happen trade rumors, other teams in the playoff, the delayed sale, etc.
Every player should be accorded the privilege of at least one season with the Chicago Cubs. That's baseball as it should be played - in God's own sunshine. And that's really living."
All due respect to Kevin Foster and his family...
…there really isn’t much to do with this topic besides say how tragic his passing is. It takes literally seconds to search the site and determine whether a topic has been covered. Let’s raise the bar, folks.
