un....fucking...believable

I’m sorry about my language but this is so fucking cliche.

Theriot can’t make a play, botches a DP
DeRosa can’t handle an easy DP
Lee cant fucking hit or fucking field when it COUNTS

I'll forgive Theriot.

He got outfoxed by a superior manager.

DeRosa and Lee are wastes of space.

DeRosa can at least hit in clutch situations and is a veristile fielder

D-Lee is the opposite of clutch this season. He’s been only really great at fielding and he can’t even do that tonight

It ain't pinella's fault

this year or last year. This offense falls apart. I know the scoreboard will show the dodgers scoring 7 last night and probably about the same tonight and the focus will be on the pitching. But it is the offense’s inability to give our pitchers any margin of error in the playoffs. and if soriano and lee can’t get it done when it matters then good riddance.

Are people really blaming the Tribune? They go on and put together a 98-win team that wilts under the pressure, hardly a ownership issue. The good news is at least we will see Fontenot tomorrow night. Way to stick with Dome Pinella, that really paid off. I’m changing my estimate for the Cubs offense from 2 runs to 0. They’ve quit again – on the team, on the city and worst of all on themselves

Attitude.

I’m not declaring this series/season over, because until its over, its just not over. However, we all know what is approaching very quickly: a fall from grace that no one really saw coming. It was 6 months of some of the best summer nights I’ve ever had. WE REALLY did believe this was different. The only thing I can take from this, is what I said during the Houston series, in which they looked a lot like this, and were then swept, sending us into a small tailspin. This team is not cut out to play in a tough atmosphere. They don’t have the metnal toughness.

I understand that the Cubs have come through with some pretty wild comebacks over the span of this season, however when were their backs really against the wall? Comebacks in game 108 are quite irrelevant when it comes to the postseason. Its a mental game. Its what you bring in your heart to the ball park when you get punched in the mouth. Do you stand up and fight back? Or, do you tighten up and lean on the other players in your lineup?

This team, with the given leadership (Lou, Lee, Soriano) is not going to win a World Series. They don’t have the guts. If you step away from the emotion its clear to see they’re way too tight. Lou is a chair thrower. Zambrano is a chair thrower. Its clear the way they have performed in the post season. The tighter you wind up, the harder you snap.

I fully understand that this isn’t last years team. But look at the core of the team, and its management. Its the same. I’m not calling for heads, but something needs to happen. Something needs to change, where the attitude of this team needs to be adjusted. Call me what you want, I’m not being rude. I’m not swearin, I’m not calling for heads to roll. I’m calling for some leadership to be brought to this team. They clearly need it.

Its funny, you spend most of your life gripping a baseball. And in the end, its almost always the other way around.

Baseball season is over.

This isn’t Z’s fault by any means, but this team is done for this year. Lou screwed up last night, but this one is on the players.

What good is having the best record playing in the best division in the league if you play like this? At home, no less.

I had a bad feeling going into last night’s game, and now I have a pit in my stomach. What a waste of a summer. I don’t care what anyone says about how the season isn’t lost if they don’t win the WS. If they don’t even win a game in the postseason, it’s a waste of a summer. It was fun at the time, but I’m about to take down my Cubs flag and put the Bears flag up.

Baseball season is over.

Three errors. This team just doesn’t deserve it, I am sad to say. If you are a baseball fan, you know that the Cubs have been outplayed, out-managed, out-pitched to this point in the series. To expect the team to sweep three in a row is just smoking crack.

I wouldn't go that far

but I do think they need to do what they did to Soldier Field, but the right way.

Gut the grandstands, leave the outfield wall and ivy, and rebuild the grandstand with the same look, but no obstructed view.

I don’t think that will help our current problem, but whatever.

While they're at it

if they flop again, which they are on their way to it, perhaps they could unload these players that are past their prime and Post-Season chokes and go with a younger approach? Keep some pitching and Blow the rest up.

As I’ve said – they have been outplayed, out-managed, out pitched, out-hit, what more could you possibly say!

BFD – they “won” the Central, and will ONCE MORE FAIL. Losers!

There obviously something to

be said for players that truly light it up in the Post Season.

We needed one of those type of guys that can have a big series.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a guy like that on this team.

by The E-Man on Oct 2, 2008 9:55 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i have an idea for TBS

They could shut down the cameras and just replay the 07 series against hte Diamondbacks. No one would know the difference because the Cubs offense is exactly the same. No power, no clutch hits, just ball after ball pounded into the ground. At least Marmol’s arm will be fresh for next year.

by BeltwayCubsFan on Oct 2, 2008 9:55 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Next Year

IF this ends the way it seems it’s going to then Hendry needs to make some changes in the offseason. Just making the playoffs isn’t good enough anymore. We need 2 solid left-handed bats and a premier starting pitcher. The team we have now reminds me a lot of the Astros teams in the late ’90s – great during the season but they never had the bats or dominant starters to do anything in the playoffs. This offseason will be an opportunity to show that we are a large market team committed to winning it all not just hoping we get lucky like the White Sox.

That being said I hope they turn this thing around and prove me wrong.

by LerxstCub on Oct 2, 2008 9:56 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs
