Photos From NLDS Game #1

There weren't many moments worth remembering from last night's game, but David did capture a few:

DeRo!
Mark DeRosa homers in the second inning, giving the Cubs a brief lead

THAT ball made it?
Jim Edmonds watches Russell Martin's 9th-inning homer land in the basket

Thanks for the memories...

I’d rather the Cubs end that way!

Ball Hop Over Edmonds

The first thing I thought of when seeing the picture of Edmonds was the one he misplayed that turned a double into a triple. He’s a former Gold Glover, but let that ball play him rather than giving a step or two away from the wall for the bounce. As it turned out the next batter stroked a single, so the runner may have scored from second. I expect better play from Edmonds. Oh well.

Pie, Fontenot, Theriot and Soto up the middle ... yippie oh, oh, oh!

Fixed it, 7-2 lead and the way the Cubs were playing last night, no need to even throw strikes.

True.

I hated seeing it, but guessed Torre wanted to give him one more appearance at Wrigley. That and save the rest of his ’pen.

Close but not about Wrigley

Once they had the 5th run they did not need Saito ( though he threw again when the runner go on in the 9th), Maddux is not going to start in this series and I think Torre wanted to give him something constructive to do. Maddux himself was resigned to not starting and made a point of reminding people he HAD relieved in the post season with the Braves. Also Maddux had coached Lowe through the whole game so perhaps it was a little bit of a reward but I don’t think it had anything to do with the game being at Wrigley.

I gotta admit...

…I wondered whether sending Maddux out there was a little bit of psychological warfare on Torre’s part.

Me too bro.

I kept having to tell myself not to panic. And I’m not. But I won’t say I wasn’t dissapointed. I’d rather my team win through adversity than walk to the championship. There’s a reason these titles are decided by series and not singel games. GO CUBS GO. I have FAITH!

Anybody else strangely calm today?

Yesterday, I was a bundle of nerves… stomach in knots, couldn’t focus on anything, etc.

Today is completely different. I’m looking forward to the game but not obsessing about it or worrying about it. I don’t know if it’s quiet confidence, indifference or a sense of impending doom.
