I'll say it again....be POSITIVE
Man, in reading most of the fanposts here, it just seems like we're all ready for the 2008 Cubs funeral procession. Come on we have one of the best teams in most of our lifetimes this year and we're all about to just give it up after one loss?
So when we win tonight (which I truly believe we will) the series will be tied 1-1. Would all of us be trying to end the season after tonight if we would have won Game 1 but then lost Game 2 and then still have the series be 1-1???
Lets just try to keep this all in perspective, know that we most likely have the best starting rotation out there (come on Zambrano, Harden, Lilly...that has to strike fear in other teams) and if we need to go to a game 5, Dempster will step up.
So lets all take a deep breath and get those Dodgers tonight
GO CUBS GO

So, are you sayin' that Sori will stop flailing at the plate?
Sounds good to me!

Well if it means anything
Last night I insisted I wasn’t going back to Wrigleyville. But I decided today that I’m going because I want to be there when they win this game.
When they give me something to be positive about...
I’ll be positive.
I’d just as soon have Game 5 be a bullpen start as give it to that choking dog Dempster.
Pluto will always be a planet to me!
Choking dog?
Don’t you mean that…
SCURVY KNAVE!!! YARRRRRRRRR!!!!
The Chicago Cubs: 2008 Central Division Champions
I'm telling you
If there’s a game 5, Dempster will pitch a gem. Mark it down.
If there is a Game 5
I want the locks changed on the stadium. Dempster should be banned from even watching that game on TV.
Pluto will always be a planet to me!
Yes we should judge his performance based on one game forever
He is clearly done pitching at the major league level.
I'm sure he will be fine..
in mid-May versus the Rockies and Giants.
But if he can’t handle the big stage, what good is he?
Pluto will always be a planet to me!
good god.
you have consistently shown that you do now know ANYTHING ABOUT BASEBALL.
WILL YOU PLEASE SHUT UP?

right.
take your best pitcher out of the equation.
Why are we supposed to listen to your ravings again?

Did you SEE him in Game 1?
Dempster is no longer the best pitcher on the team. Period.
Pluto will always be a planet to me!
Kind of a small sample, don'tcha think?
I mean, he did have that awful start against the White Sox. Now my memory is a little foggy, but I’m pretty sure he pitched a few decent games after that one.

If he can't do it in the playoffs
Then he’s worthless to us.
Game 5 will be the most pressure-packed start of his career.
Regular season players and postseason players are different animals. Dempster clearly isn’t the latter.

i dont feel like looking through the comments
but what were your thoughts on dempster starting game one before this series started? you can say now that you think it’s a terrible idea but it’s seems like MMQB if you ask me.

I thought it was a good idea to start him
Now we have new information. It would be a lousy idea to start him in Game 5. I’d rather have Marquis.

Yey but...
…to get to the post-season, you have to be a good regular season player. You see, if you can’t do it in the regular season, you don’t get to see how you do in the post-season, make sense?

It does...
And now we’ve seen how he does in the postseason.
It wasn’t wrong to start him in Game 1. It would be in Game 5.

in one game?
Well, after Z pitched his no-hitter, he had a terrible outing. We should keep him out of the stadium too. So, Harden pitches, right?
Wait, he kinda sucked last outing too.
I know, Ted Lilly! Oh. His first half sucked.
Jason Marquis? Maybe HE should start. Right.
As someone who has followed baseball for decades, I know that you cannot base an evaluation on one game. Apparently, you haven’t learned that yet.

You can...
when the game is so important.
Dempster proved he can’t handle a big game. These weren’t good pitches that were hit by good hitters (like Marshall). This was overthrowing because he was scared.
I don’t want scared in Game 5. Maybe you do.
Pluto will always be a planet to me!
He handled the big stage...
…very poorly last night, not doubt about it. In fact, I have no other explanation than to say the importance of the game got the best of him (this time).
With that said, I throw him in game five if it goes that far, because I think its more than likely he is competitive enouph to show that was a fluke.
"I don't like them fellas that drive in two runs but let in three" Casey Stengel
That's a reasonable argument...
But I don’t want to take that chance.

I want
our best pitchers to pitch. If it comes around to Game 5, you better damn well BET that I want Dempster to have that ball. He is our BEST PITCHER.
Stick to fantasy leagues. You’ll feel better.

Someone that can't win ...
in the playoffs cannot…by definition, be the best pitcher.
Pluto will always be a planet to me!
once again
you show your utter lack of knowlege.
Why do you do this to yourself?

Would you rather..
Be a fan of any other team that is not in the playoffs? Yes we all have the desire to win the whole darn thing, but atleast we’re playing October baseball and not thinking about next year

Dude
you gotta cut the “choking dog” crap out. It is a lame insult to begin with, let alone on the fifteen thousandth time today.
Kwa...Ki...Sur...Pee...Nee...Ku?
Fine...
He’s a choking iguana. No one likes iguanas
Pluto will always be a planet to me!
It just seems like a stretch.
Yes we need our pitchers to step up NOW but he is hardly a choker. He is a great pitcher who didn’t show up. Bad time not to but that loss rests more on Lou’s head in his management than a guy who “didn’t have it”.
Kwa...Ki...Sur...Pee...Nee...Ku?
No, no.
The title of the post says Be Positive. Not be a giant pessimistic ass. Maybe you just read it wrong?

The album of the year, with no legitimate competition.
Is there any band in America that even comes close to what they’re doing these days? It’s like they simultaneously wrote an epic rock album and an epic novel.
Last night a poster with the handle “Charlemagne” told everyone to stay positive – that could not have been a coincidence.
We’re the directors.
Our hands will hold steady.
I’ll be John Cassavettes.
Let me know when you’re ready!
Man, we make our own movies.

I'm a realist.
I want everything you wrote to happen. I think this team is capable of doing it but I realize is not that easy and that the mathematical odds are against us. Let’s just hope we beat those odds. It’s not impossible but it’s going to be a grind.
Its one game
Im not ready to write this team off, we are the best team in the league. We had one bad game, any team would have a hard time winning if their starting pitcher issued 7 walks. Thats why its a series, we have more chances to win this thing. ESPN is ready to paint us as a fanbase of chicken little’s. We need to prove to the rest of the country that we arent a bunch of skeptics. GO CUBS!!!!
