Game Two HATE Thread
Happy now, you simpering pollyannas? Is a 5-0 deficit, which might as well be 5,000,000-0 with the way the bats are going, enough to convince you?
Torre is running circles around Pinella. If Zambrano murdered DeRosa and Lee, there wouldn't be a jury that would convict him.
I put the over/under on Cub baserunners for the rest of the game at 2.
This is the most disgusting, pathetic performance I've ever seen by an alleged good team. Perhaps they have golf dates. Perhaps they don't give a hairy rat's butt.
Different this year my ass.
This is a post for you to vent. This isn't for the people that say, "Well, if we hit a grand slam, it's 5-4!"
That will not happen. This game is over. This series is over. This season is over.
And by the way, a team that commits two errors in an inning IS NOT THE BETTER TEAM! Let's end that garbage right now. When the Dodgers win Game 3, it will not mean the better team lost.

If they lose tonight...
…the time of death for this team was 9:11PM CST.
Cause of death: Gunshot wound to the feet, both of ’em.
I hope I eat crow at the end of the night, but this one seams about ready for a few forks…
One thing you learned as a Cubs fan: when you bought you ticket, you could bank on seeing the bottom of the ninth.

Yawn...
Why, precisely, do you insist on being a sourpuss?
No matter how devoted we are, this is – AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN – a game. Period. A release from reality, for good or bad.
Maybe you should try checkers if you would like to be so cutthroat?

The last refuge of the loser
“It’s just a game!”
Fine, then let’s pay them $10 each to play. That’s all they are worth.

...
Has nothing to do with winner v. loser – has all to do, as it always has, with perspective. They are paid what we the fan see as their value. Nothing more, nothing less. If they were not worth what we chose to pay, we would not attend or watch and salaries would come back.
I can see you are determined to try your darndest to continue to bring all of us down, but it’s sure not worth it…enjoy your thread :)

so glad I didn't waste time getting back to Chicago for this

time to burn the jersey.
I believe the haters are the real fans. We aren’t drinking this kool-aid. As far as I’m concerned, if we don’t win this series you can jettison ramirez, lee, soriano and all these other chokeholding fools. Absolutely disgusting display of playoff baseball.

I can't believe how shitty this team is
Who are these guys? What has happened to their at-bats? Wasn’t Derrick Lee good when he was on Fla?

I have no suggestions about who, but it worked last year for a while…..

They are done
In truth they were done last night. All I had to do was read about the “deadening silence” of the clubhouse after the game to know that the Cubs had bowed to the pressure and packed it in.
I predicted the Dodgers in four-now it looks like we’ll be swept. It’s funnt how a team could win 97 GAMES and have so many troubling areas in the ir batting order.
All I can say is that if Lou goes into next season with Lee remaining in the three hole, I will NEVER respect him as a good manager again. We definitely need to pick up a real lead-off hitter (like, say, Brian Roberts?) and get soriano’s overpaid down several spots in the order-just for starters!

I flipped on the leadoff debate
he really only leads off once, and to have someone with his power up when the 7 or 8 guys are on base is a huge advantage. But Lee has to be hitting like 5th, with Ramirez 3rd and someone completely new in 4th b/c I doubt Edmonds can repeat this years comeback.

Lee has to be hitting in Pittsburgh.
Or Seattle. Seriously, anywhere but here.

Amen
To me the best reason to acquire a more classic lead-off type would be th eripple effect it would force on the rest of the lineup.
it’s almost like Pinella needs his hand forced before he’ll make any significant changes.
I’ve been SCREAMING for lee to be moved down (and A-Ram put into the 3 hole) since July.
it’s incredibly frustrating (and almost “Dusty-like”) to see how stubborn Pinella has been in this area and, as i feared, it’s really come around to screw us in the playoffs

Hes too old school I guess
Lee doesnt seem like Sosa though, he bitched at even the slightest hint of a lineup change

As much as I am with you guys...
…in saying that the season is over you have to think. We have a really good pitcher in game 3, a pitcher pitching maybe the best in his career and took a no hitter deep into his last few starts, then we have dempster and z again who with the excetion of dempsters last game, have been decent.
It is still possible, we only have to win 3 games in a row.

It's absolutely possible.
It’s tricky, though, with the team stepping on their cranks at every opportunity.
They are scared.

I'd be semi-inclined to go along with you
if these had been close losses/good games but this team is like the proverbial “deer in the headlights”. i hate to be a ledge jumper but I don’t see any way they’re going to come out of it now.

Stranger things have happened
This team has had tons of 3 game winning streaks. Torre has managed to blow a 3-0 lead in a playoff!
I fully understand all frustrations as I am just as mad but I refuse to give up on this team until they are officially done.

I like this thread, because real fans must be critical as well as supportive
Mindless and uncritical optimism is the dream of a fool.
Changes I’d like to see: Howry dragged through the streets like Hektor in the Iliad, Lou step down due to his failure to make important lineup decisions, like playing Fukudome too much when he’s clearly not the OBP machine he was in the first few months, allowing Soriano to bat leadoff instead of 3rd where he belongs, letting Lee hit third instead of platooning him with the Hoff or dropping him down to 6th, placing Sorriano and Pie on the playoff list. A real manager can’t worry about players feelings, but has to make the hard decisions. Lou talks tough but isn’t acting effectively
I’d like to see the Cubs make a real run at either Sabbathia or Sheets: whomever the Brewers decide not to sign so that Lily becomes the best 5th starter in baseball. GIDP Lee needs to be 6-4-3ing someplace else and if Marquis wants to make the squad it’ll be as a pinch hitter, not a pitcher, because it’s time to let that dream go.

In my frustrated haste...
I meant to write “placing Howry and Pie on the playoff roster”. Sorriano is obviously one of the best players in the league and is a must-include on any playoff roster. Ugg.

Thank you DaBard...
And everyone else…
I hate to say it…but until we stop paying to go to games to see this garbage and the team stops playing at Wrigley…this is going to continue. C’mon Mark Cuban! He won’t sell tickets to StubHub ahead of time.

I don't see why that's the case...
Teams turn it around without fans boycotting, usually by hiring very smart GMs with plans and the capability to execute the plan. Hendry did a good job of recovering from the Baker disaster, but I am now certain he will never build the team it takes to get to the WS. It’s time for big changes.

Things I hate
Poor performances by a team that’s better than this
Mental mistakes and bad defense
Changing your patient approach at the plate and swapping it out for a swing-at-everything approach
But more than that I hate:
I-told-you-so threads gloating about the failure of the team we’re supposed to be cheering for
Posters who bring nothing to the table other than an abrasive tone and a stunning lack of insight
People with a hilariously misplaced sense of moral and intellectual superiority
Fans who take losing so poorly that it makes me think that they really do deserve a losing team
So thanks DaBard – at least you’ve put this loss in perspective. It turns out there are worse things than losing – and that’s losing like you do.

I really do get both sides
I understand the need to be angry, pissed off, etc. at a team we all spend way too much time worrying about. We have to realize, we care more about the Chicago Cubs than the players do. We’re here forever, they come and go.
The thing I’m most surprised at is how apathetic I am right now. The thing I’ll take with me from this season is that the regular season means squat. 97 wins. Led the NL in all the most important stats. Then play nervous, tight baseball.
I’d make some changes for next year, but keep most of the team intact. Hard to complain about a team winning 97 games, but it means nothing without postseason succes. I don’t know what to think.
Good night all!

you saw the thread name...
so why read on if you know the topic won’t be to your liking? Or is that sound logic just another case of “a hilariously misplaced sense of moral and intellectual superiority”? Because, I got to tell you, I do feel pretty superior to people whose sole contribution to a thread is an ad hominem attack against another poster.
