Hey Sue...
Meant to ask earlier…did you really catch an 18 lb Northern Pike? Where at? I caught a few 40" before but never weighed them. That was in Canada.
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
It was in Canada.
My husband caught a 21 pounder. That was all we caught was Northern. It was a camp we had to fly into.
That's awsome!
I believe my 40" should be around 20lbs…don’t know for sure. Pike can be pretty skinny. I go to Eagle Lake usually. Great fishing and nice lodges there. Went on a few fly-ins too. Those are fun.
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
The lake we
were on was Molson Lake. The camp was run by Indians. They had no electricity, everything was generators. At 10 pm the lights went off. The only heat we had was a wood stove that the Indians put wood in in the mornings. It got really cold during the night. The food was great too.
Reminds me of the many times I spent up in Alaska. Fun.
"I'm not much of a chemistry guy, you know. Chemistry to me is a pinch-hit double with the bases loaded"--Jim Frey, Chicago Tribune, 1985.
Good times!
The only fly-in’s I’ve done have been one day deals from the lodge. Not exactly roughing it, but excellent fishing tho. Just talking about Canada is wetting my appetite for some Walleye!
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
Walleye is my fave ...
And I always have some Crappie in the freezer. Pike’s not too bad either.
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
I could have gone to Canada Monday...
expenses paid….but I wouldn’t miss this for anything; regardless of the outcome. Also, it’s getting too damn cold up there already.
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
Don't blame you...
I’m just outside Chicago and had mine on last night too…upper 30’s is cold to me.

There’s a small one near me that has some nice Catfish….Good eating too IMO, but not for everyone.

Wow...

There isn’t anything GOOD to say about this game so far. Regardless of how optimists want to portray it, reality has to win through.

this is an absolute shame.
Z’s pitching well and the infielders are acting like this is a Monday night slow pitch softball game the way they are fielding. It hurts me to the bone that this team has been so dominant for 6 months to see it end this way. It may not be over, but we need a miracle. A Soto-esque long ball comeback. Positivity is fine, but delusions of grandeur are another.
These guys are good ballplayers. but are they winning ballplayers?

I'm certainly not saying that.

"They played the best all year, so they're the winners." ~Tony LaRussa on the 2008 Cubs
Dude...
Harden will be fine.
But with this defense and these hitters, we’re asking him to win a 1-0 game, hit the game winning homer and get four outs each inning.
Pluto will always be a planet to me!
Yeah, Harden will be fine. The key is to get those guys hitting and fielding behind him.

Utterly depressing
I really did expect a win tonight. I just don’t see them winning three in a row with the way they are playing thus far. Harden can throw a gem, but if they can’t score any runs, what’s the point? Well, off work in another 45 minutes. It’s going to be a crappy drive home. I’m still holding onto a very tiny shred of hope for this series, but it is extremely frayed.

Lou's not the reason for these past two nights
Yes, there may be a couple tactical moves to argue about. But it has been the collective ungodly performance of the guys on the field that is to blame for this debacle. I’m not sure what Lou Piniella can do to pitch, field and hit for his so called “stars.”
Oh please let this dubious bullpen be good enough in the playoffs...
Ummmm
If DeRo were in Right, wouldn’t that take Dome out of the lineup and cause us to not gain at Left-handed bat even if LBR were playing 2b?
Upon further review
No idea why I capitalized “Left.” Its been a long night.
Kosuke is an automatic out
I could care less which side of the plate he hits from at this point. Mike Fontenot has been flat our raking the ball and has been as clutch a hitter as this team has had the 2nd half. And like I said, DeRosa’s defense in right field couldn’t have been any worse that what it has been on his gimpy leg at 2nd.
Oh please let this dubious bullpen be good enough in the playoffs...
Fair Points
But it seemed like you criticism was that we didn’t have enough lefty bats in the lineup. Not that our lefty bats were ineffectual (may or may not be spelled correctly or a word. Again, its been a long night).

Can't wait to read Al's headliner tomorrow morning....
Or to read the inevitable grand master debate of how the Cubs are so superior to the Dodgers in every phase of the game. This team just puckered up once again. Pitching, hitting, fielding…. The only post-season where this team really had it’s mojo for awhile was in 2003 before that horrific inning that included that poor dumb goofy bastard Steve Bartman doing what anybody else sitting in that seat would have done followed by the awful botched play by Alex Gonzalez. Other than 2003 every playoff season has been the worst possible nightmare scenario that could be scripted.

That's why you call people like that "quitters". Easier route.
Quitters and trolls and bandwagon fans blame.
Winners get back up, shake it off, and work at getting better and winning the next one.

You're the one that wanted to throw in the towel,
as you said, “Way to waste the whole regular season!”
The season is NOT over! When you still have outs, you still have a chance!
Hey, it's a new century!

Well Billingsley
Just called out the Cubs for being Tight. Cubs please use that as motivation. Don’t let a 23 year old starter call you out.

Reported ask him a question if the Cubs looked like they were playing tight. And he responded that they did…
The correct response to that question: Is that we got some breaks and took advantage of them.

I wish our players would play like they were excited...
they look like they’re having intestinal cramps most of the time.

I had hope
All the talk during the season about the motivation to get back and prove that last year’s performance was a fluke.
If they completely this crappy run…what do you do? You can’t really blow up the team but damn it is in their heads for sure now…

Post-game says the fanbase gets a gold star
for it’s cheering and voice. FWIW.

well crap
I had no idea this thread was goin. I must’ve missed out on when the others went bad. by the time I got the chance to get back on here (busy night at work), the last thread had about 10 posters and no really bad animosity. I would have liked to have been here with you guys though.

CHOKE, in full display tonight
Glad to see all the positive spins but the facts are, the Dodgers beat us twice without having to do much other than put the ball in play or take a walk. This a sorry ending to a great, great season and I couldn’t be more pissed. Hate to say but, Wait till next year. The horse is almost dead and beating himany more ain’t gonna help, the team has to do it themselves for themselves and I am hoping against hope that thye can do it.
"He can't hit, he can't field, he can't run—all he can do is beat you."
It won’t do anything, but I(!!!) think that the lineup should go
Soriano LF
Lee 1b
DeRosa 2B
Ramirez 3B
Soto C
Edmonds CF
Theriot SS
Fukudome RF
I think that lineup gives us the best option to win a game. Lee is NOT a 3rd hole hitter, and so isn’t DeRosa, but DERO is MUCH more clutch in huge situations. I have a bad feeling that Lee is going to be booed out of town next year..
2008 Cubs: Who needs nine innings, when you only need a 7th?
This is how I'm keeping hope alive
I keep reminding myself that they want this as much as I do. Fukodome is probably ready to jump off a ledge.
I’m a vegetarian and I don’t drink but, if I was Lou, this is what I’d have done tonight:
1. Send them all out for a big steak dinner with some wine, beer and/or scotch. Their choosing. Tell them to have some laughs and loosen up (and keep Fukodome away from any ledges).
2. Have them fly out tomorrow well rested. Give them some good food in the clubhouse before the game. Make it like the 40’s and serve them some alcohol, or shirley temples or whatever they need (they can’t hit or field sober, so there’s nowhere to go but up).
3. Remind them that they’re not attempting to enact world peace or rescue Wall Street. They need to hit a ball with a bat and field a grounder. They’ll get paid regardless. Have fun!
Oh, and bench Fukodome, play Fontenot and hit the infield about 3000 grounders before the game.
Go Cubs!!

Sending positive thoughts from Beijing!!!!
Lets go Cubbies!!!!
gonna try to be on gameday and the threads for this one. . . i continue to believe. . . I can’t believe this team will give up with their backs against the wall!!!
One game at a time. . . let’s do this!!!!
Well..
They did give up. Bunch of Spineless quitters. They showed no heart or emotion this whole series. They played scared.
YEP...
Speaking the truth. They were so tight they were dropping diamonds down the baselines. The pressure got to them from the first pitch. What a total and complete joke.
