Hey Sue...

Meant to ask earlier…did you really catch an 18 lb Northern Pike? Where at? I caught a few 40" before but never weighed them. That was in Canada.

by Bump Bailey on Oct 2, 2008 9:32 PM CDT up reply actions

It was in Canada.

My husband caught a 21 pounder. That was all we caught was Northern. It was a camp we had to fly into.

by sue369 on Oct 2, 2008 10:13 PM CDT up reply actions

That's awsome!

I believe my 40" should be around 20lbs…don’t know for sure. Pike can be pretty skinny. I go to Eagle Lake usually. Great fishing and nice lodges there. Went on a few fly-ins too. Those are fun.

The lake we

were on was Molson Lake. The camp was run by Indians. They had no electricity, everything was generators. At 10 pm the lights went off. The only heat we had was a wood stove that the Indians put wood in in the mornings. It got really cold during the night. The food was great too.

Reminds me of the many times I spent up in Alaska. Fun.

Good times!

The only fly-in’s I’ve done have been one day deals from the lodge. Not exactly roughing it, but excellent fishing tho. Just talking about Canada is wetting my appetite for some Walleye!

The problem is that Joe Torre has forgotten more about playoff managing than Pinella knows. DeRosa and Lee are the problems.

What? Now it's the playoffs fault?

You realize that if there were no wild card, the Cubs would still have to win 4 of 7, right?

And if it was just pennants, like before 1968, they’d still have to win 4 of 7, right?

Harden wins Game 3, then Lilly in Game 4 is an advantage. Game 5 is a toss-up.

Or to read the inevitable grand master debate of how the Cubs are so superior to the Dodgers in every phase of the game. This team just puckered up once again. Pitching, hitting, fielding…. The only post-season where this team really had it’s mojo for awhile was in 2003 before that horrific inning that included that poor dumb goofy bastard Steve Bartman doing what anybody else sitting in that seat would have done followed by the awful botched play by Alex Gonzalez. Other than 2003 every playoff season has been the worst possible nightmare scenario that could be scripted.

Oh please let this dubious bullpen be good enough in the playoffs...

I have to laugh

I failed to get any NLDS lottery wins for all the potential Cubs matchups.

These first two games haven’t gone so well. (Yes , I see the understatement there.)

My son’s in the hospital and his life is forever changed.

My wife (catching some needed sleep at home) just sent me the confirmation email she got earlier today that she can buy NLCS tickets at Wrigley tomorrow. How can I not have hope we will pull this out and I will get to use those tickets?

How cool is that? Hope. Get some. It’s good stuff.

GO CUBS!

So do I

On the other hand, I liked our chances with Dempster and Zambrano, too.

What I really hate, almost more than the loss itself, is the fact that for the next 2 days I have to put up with a zillion negative stories about the team here, there, and everywhere.

CHOKE, in full display tonight

Glad to see all the positive spins but the facts are, the Dodgers beat us twice without having to do much other than put the ball in play or take a walk. This a sorry ending to a great, great season and I couldn’t be more pissed. Hate to say but, Wait till next year. The horse is almost dead and beating himany more ain’t gonna help, the team has to do it themselves for themselves and I am hoping against hope that thye can do it.

It won’t do anything, but I(!!!) think that the lineup should go

Soriano LF
Lee 1b
DeRosa 2B
Ramirez 3B
Soto C
Edmonds CF
Theriot SS
Fukudome RF

I think that lineup gives us the best option to win a game. Lee is NOT a 3rd hole hitter, and so isn’t DeRosa, but DERO is MUCH more clutch in huge situations. I have a bad feeling that Lee is going to be booed out of town next year..

by Chanman25 on Oct 3, 2008 6:52 AM CDT reply actions

This is how I'm keeping hope alive

I keep reminding myself that they want this as much as I do. Fukodome is probably ready to jump off a ledge.

I’m a vegetarian and I don’t drink but, if I was Lou, this is what I’d have done tonight:
1. Send them all out for a big steak dinner with some wine, beer and/or scotch. Their choosing. Tell them to have some laughs and loosen up (and keep Fukodome away from any ledges).

2. Have them fly out tomorrow well rested. Give them some good food in the clubhouse before the game. Make it like the 40’s and serve them some alcohol, or shirley temples or whatever they need (they can’t hit or field sober, so there’s nowhere to go but up).

3. Remind them that they’re not attempting to enact world peace or rescue Wall Street. They need to hit a ball with a bat and field a grounder. They’ll get paid regardless. Have fun!

Oh, and bench Fukodome, play Fontenot and hit the infield about 3000 grounders before the game.

Go Cubs!!
