Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Continues Rampage, New York Wins On Road

Look...this series is not over...so don't act like it is.

I get the fact that the Cubs have been playing terribly of late...Fukudome, Sori, Lee, Soto, Ramirez, Theriot...none of them have been doing anything.

Zambrano wasn't too bad tonight, the defense failed him...DeRosa and Edmonds are the only two laying wood on the ball...but they showed signs of life in the bottom of the 9th and ended with a little momentum.

Who's to say that Rich Harden can't come out and dominate game 3 Saturday night?! Rich Harden is rested, healthy, and ready to get out there...I anticipate and have been calling a Cubs victory since the rotation was posted...Lilly has been on fire and has that bulldog mentality to get this team back home in Chicago again.

Down 2-0, facing seemingly insurmountable odds, it's easy to hang your head and give up hope...but we've been through too much as fans to just GIVE UP on this team!!

So in short...DONT GIVE UP ON THIS TEAM!!! We have the best chance of anyone to comeback down 2-0...the offense is bound to hit in warmer LA...and Rich Harden and Ted Lilly arguably could have been the starters in games 1 and 2...let's keep it together until we're officially done and hope that the best...(an epic all-time comeback..hey we've had a few of those this year!) is yet to come...

GO CUBS!!

I have to think that maybe

it’s playing @ home in front of their own fans that is causing them to seize up…?

Maybe flying out to “cool, calm, collected” L.A. will bring out a different side of this team…you know..the side that won 97 games in the regular season.

Either way..don’t give up hope yet man. It’s happened before…and while I may just be wearing my Blue Cubbie tinted shades…I just don’t want to give up on this year yet.

We have Rich Harden…that ace up our sleeve…and Ted Lilly…the one pitcher who can scratch and claw for us through innings…

Maybe the bats will come alive…maybe not…as long as we have those 2 pitchers we have a chance to extend this series though.

but they’ve given me nothing to show i should. I live and die with these guys and I looked for every angle to win that I can. But i cannot look at myself in the mirror and seriously believe they’ll pull it out. I want to so bad……

Yeah...

well to be honest hawkster…I can’t sit here and say I blame you or that I don’t understand…a part of me wants to just hate being a Cubs fan and sit and cry about it…but my girlfriend said something to me tonight at the end of the game that’s so true…it aint over till the fat lady sings…oh..no wait…I think it was…“The curse of the Cubs fan is to always believe”…

Well…I still believe…I want Rich Harden and Ted Lilly to get their shots at doing something for us…and maybe we’ll make it out alive…

Either way…

I am so ready to root like hell for us Saturday

and I will be wearing my Cubs hat tomorrow just like some others on this thread. However, it will be a different hat than the one that I wore today, just to change the mojo. I know that it can happen and as my wife said to me as i was swearing after the game: “didn’t the Cubs beat the Dodgers a bunch already this year?” Let’s do dome more!!

by wsunick on Oct 3, 2008 12:48 AM CDT up reply actions

Hell yea man...

Go Cubs forever…and wsunick…for sure…

I’m sure a lot of people wont even watch Saturday like a lot of people couldnt watch game 3 last year or game 7 in ’03. Fact is, I will be.

I want to see the comeback when it starts firsthand as Rich Harden pitches us back into this series.

I will for sure be watching that game. My whole weekend – hell, my whole life in the near future – is planned around that possible comeback. I’m not saying I dont want it to happen. I’m just looking at this objectivley and think these guys need a foot up their asses

Well..I can't argue really...

I think Fukudome needs Lou’s foot wedged permanently up his ass. I am…over him…I cringed when he came to bat tonight with runners on.

Soriano needs a good butt-kicking…
Ramirez needs to get it in gear.
Soto has disappeared at the plate and defensively really too…

I dont know what to say about Lee or Theriot…I dont think you want to hear what I have to say about any of it…it doesnt matter.

I just know I’m watching Saturday instead of going out for my birthday…and I’ll be asking God for an early couple b-day presents…Cubs wins…

I know it can happen!

Well said..

..This game was a sham, an embarassment — A TOTAL FLOP! Fukudome looked like a little leaguer — bench him.

I am totally disgusted right now — I dread showing my face at work tomorrow — Saturday at Chavez Ravine will be rough as well (I kinda don’t want to even go anymore) — no doubt LA fans will be talking lots of shi*.

At least you're going...

make your voice heard cali…we need fans there…and we need something good to happen early…and Harden to pitch a gem.

But there’s no one I trust more on that staff than Rich Harden. He’s not injured..he made it…and that was the ONLY question with that guy. The injury question…he’s ready to go…

So am I. I want this bad taste out of my mouth NOW.

a men!!!!

Some people would look at this and say it’s a lost cause, but at the end of the day it’s still just 3 games in a row. And maybe if it’s meant to be, this is the way it’s supposed to happen. Look at the Red Sox in 04. Maybe we’ll lose game 3, who knows, but I personally refuse to believe that these first 2 games are the best efforts we can put forth in this series.

I’ll be wearing my Cubs hat tomorrow just as I have been all my life.

Keep the faith!

i hate being a negative nelly -

but look at the last two years in the postseason- the last 5 playoff games. They’ve shown no sign of being a clutch postseason team, or a team that responds when everything is on the line. For crissakes, Soto ROLLED a ball back to Z tonight. They look like a co-ed softball beer league team. I’m gonna be sitting in front of that tv yelling and screaming for a win saturday……but lets face it, its over

by hawkster34 on Oct 3, 2008 12:36 AM CDT up reply actions

And to everyone who says it's the pressure...

well…there is none now…they’re down 0-2…everyone’s gonna write them off…hell…I believe but I know it’s unlikely to happen…

Rich Harden wants that ball…he WANTS that ball…and Ted Lilly WANTS THAT BALL…I love these 2 pitchers @ Dodgers Stadium…I can see it happening…2 wins and we are right back home…then it’s pressure back on but who knows…gotta get those 2 first and then we’ll talk. And I think they can do it…

I know everyone, including Al and myself, proclaimed Game 2 a “must-win”…well…it was I guess…but technically it wasn’t…Game 3 is a MUST WIN…it’s ELIMINATION time…this team has been under the gun all year and cameback…

They got down BIG in game 1 and game 2 due to the bullpen and some errors, etc….they were pretty much insurmountable deficits…throwaway games if you will…

If they can get through 6 innings in the lead, tied, or down just 1…I think we got it…

I still believe in this team…I love this team…This team has brought so many smiles to my face this year…happy tears to my eyes…and I’m only 18. (19 Monday)…I want my birthday present to be Cubs baseball AFTER my birthday on Monday….and I think Harden and Lilly can do it…

We can do this…JUST BELIEVE!!!!

I wanna Believe....And I'll be hanging on till the end

But to refute your point….They were never under the gun all year. With the exception of a four game sweep over an obviously overmatched Brewers team, we cruised through this season. Yesterday and tonight were the first real “pressure” games, and they choked like Jenna Jameson – if she had a gag reflex.

by hawkster34 on Oct 3, 2008 1:03 AM CDT reply actions

What I mean by that was...

that they have the most comeback wins in the league this year…

They have made huge comeback wins no one thought possible all year…

so why not the biggest of them all??

If it’s supposed to be The Year so to speak…well…might as well go down swinging right?

I love this team so damn much…I cant bear to let go…I cant watch them go down like this…I’m not ready…I really thought this was The Year…I’m not ready to give up on my team yet…and neither are you…

This team isn’t gonna go down without a fight. Believe that.

I had it happen the last 2 nights in St. Louis sports bars…all I’m saying is..I am not ready to home for 6 months on this note. I want a game…a fight…and Harden and Lilly give us a real chance for that…

You're a good fan.

It broke my heart to see good die hard Cubs fans crying tonight. I just don’t see a good team out there. This is not a team built for the postseason and the manager is easily outmanaged.

True

I’d say though that the team at this point in time is not built for the post-season. This is playoff baseball, Red Sox,Phillies, and Rays are showing how you have to step it up to the next notch to get it done. as for Pinella, just couldn’t match the aggressive style of Torre, in LA could be a different story, but it is a tall order.

Thanks...means a lot

to be called a good fan by another Cubs faithful…and I was just born with that Cubbie gene in me. I love this team…good or bad…stormy weather…sunshine in the sky…

The boat’s going down right now…the Titantic is sinking…Rich Harden’s flying those lifeboats out there as fast as he can! Maybe he’ll save us for one more day. And Ted Lilly can paddle us back to within sight of shore and give us real hope…then it’s anyone’s game.

Just have to wait

Really nothing else we can do, like the Cubs we’ll take the off day and cool off and calm down. We’ve proven that as fans we are ready for more, and if the bats come awake between now and saturday then wonderful. Otherwise, what does it matter, we would have been blown away by the Phillies anyway. It doesn’t change the fact that we have seen their abilities and talent all season. When your hot your hot, when your not your not.

by StevenABQ on Oct 3, 2008 1:07 AM CDT reply actions

Maybe it's time we get hot...

we have the most talented pitcher we have going out there…and he’s HEALTHY!!

I think if Rich gets us that win…and he’s capable…we fight and claw and scratch like hell for that win…that pressure of the first win is gone…and maybe just maybe the floodgates open up!

Either way…if we get to game 4…I love Ted Lilly getting us back home. He’s got the right mentality…I know he got blown up last year but he has my faith…this team has my faith.

I think Harden and Lilly can perform, but its a big request for Harden to pitch 7, and this offensive funk has to end.

by StevenABQ on Oct 3, 2008 1:16 AM CDT up reply actions

Well...that's the problem...

I dont know who has the key at the plate…I hope that some magic juju gets rubbed on Sori, Lee, and Rami’s bats…or else we’re in a dogfight and Rich will have to carry us to the 8th.

by cubs2k8isnxtyear on Oct 3, 2008 1:18 AM CDT up reply actions

They need to score early

Tonight there is no reason Sori should not have reached home in the 1st. Take away the errors and its not as bad of a sting – even though they tacked on runs in the later innings. I thought Pinella would pitch around Manny, but the opportunity never presented itself because they kept allowing LA’s speedy top of the order to get on base. These were all known facts prior to the series, they should have played more aggressively, but unfortunately that has not been our style of play this season. Its the same thing the Brewers did, except that we have better pitching and our streaky hitters were picked up by guys lower in the order.

by StevenABQ on Oct 3, 2008 1:22 AM CDT up reply actions

Regardless...

They are playing Saturday…..50/50……WIN and play again Sunday…Lose…go home

The best defense is a good offense.....Lou Pinella...still hasn't managed the Cubs to a post season win. D. Lee still doesn't have a post seasson RBI for Cubs...ditto for Soriano

What's that strange stirring in my stomach?

It’s a faint glimmer of hope. We beat the crap out of Sheets and Sabathia in back to back games when they both looked like world beaters and with a playoff type atmosphere. And that was on the road like now (half a stadium full of Cubs fans is the equivalent of loser fans from L.A. in my book – a push). I think we can do this. 100 years of failure wasn’t about to end without some drama!

Think of what another great Chicagoan (and Cubs fan) once said: “Nothing is over till we say it’s over!!”

But Marmol and Wood looked anything but sharp last night. That’s all we need to put the finishing touches on this season, a late-inning meltdown…
