This isn't over!
I've never written a fanpost on this blog, and i really dont make may comments either... although i do enjoy checking this site about 20 times a day. One reoccuring theme this season, around here, has been the feeling that this team can do anything! They have played terrible at times this season, just to come back and look like the best team in baseball. They have scored 9 runs in an inning. We've seen them come from behind more times than i can count. Let's not forget... this team is talented enough to win 3 in a row (in the playoffs).
The last two games have been the equivlent of a swift, firm kick to the nuts. I was just shy of throwing things at the TV last night. But this team isn't just playing the dodgers, they are playing 100 years of failure and the expectations that come along with all the success the've had this season. We can sit here and say "it shoudnt matter, they are professionals," but you could see the pressure get to them last night. When D-Lee (probably the best fielding 1st basemen in the MLB) bobbles a grounder hit right too him... there is a mental problem. They are pressing.
Playing in chicago is probably the WORST thing for this team right now. Let them get outside of Wrigley and play in LA away from the chicago spot-light. The pressure is off now, we have nothing to lose. We couldn't look any worse. If Rich Harden can come in and shut down LA, even just for 6 innings, and we can score a few runs... then we can win game 3. After that we can worry about game 4. This is professional sports and it takes 3 games to win the NLDS... not 2. Plus, LA is due for a bad game.
There is still hope, this series isn't over, and if i had to bet my life savings that on the playoff team who is most capable of comming back from a 0-2 hole... it would be the 2008 cubs. This team has amazed us before, many times this season. We have a six month body of evidence that shows this team, while occasionally hurting themselves with bad play, is one of the best in baseball.
So go out tonight. Have a beer or 10. Do the typical chicago cubs, lovable loser, cursed, heartbroken thing. I will. But be ready on Saturday because I dont think this team is going down without a fight. I've seen too many 9th inning, 2 out, come-from-behind wins to think they are going fold in game 3. We all know a big win on saturday could change everything, and we all know this team can do just that: WIN.

While nice, and certainly everyone wants you to be right, this is frankly delusional thinking. Last night the Cubs added another sad bitter chapter to their history, a book that has long been titled “When Fun Turns to Tragedy”.
Now, I’m not giving up on this series in particular or on the Cubs generally. I’ll happily eat every word and then some if we come back from an 0-2 hole. But 40 years of watching baseball seriously tells me the 2nd inning last night did in this team’s chances. Boy, do I hope I’m wrong!
