Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

A little Theodore tomorrow night?

Since everyone and their mother's lover's best friend's drug dealer are Fanposting these past two days I figured I'd throw this out there.

Rich Harden is scheduled to go tomorrow night, but as well all know his starts can be extremely spotty, and extremely limited. Lilly, on the other hand, has thrown 6+ innings of no-hit ball twice in the last month and as looked like the most dominant pitcher on the roster.

Without a doubt we need the bats to come alive, but in an all-or-nothing Saturday Night Showdown we need a pitcher who can keep us in the game, and I believe Lilly gives us that chance.

Plus, I really wanted to post this again:

love the pic

and to be honest at the start of this series i was more confident in lilly then i had in Z or demp. With that said there is no way in hell the Cubs gave up all thoses minor leaguers to see Rich Harden ride the pine.

Agree TOTALLY with you about starting Lilly in game 1

He has done very well most recently, and is one tough nut.

At the very least...

…if hell freezes over and the Cubs get a runner on third base late in the game, Lou should put Lilly in as a pinch runner. I’m guessing that would get us a passed ball or two at minimum. And if hell’s wind chill index should drop further and someone actually hits a fly ball to shallow left, well, let Russell Martin’s body parts fall where they may.

I'm open to a miracle.

This is a fine plan,

though, I have this re-occuring dream of him slamming his glove down after giving up a homerun to Chris B. Young in the playoffs last year.

Gotta win 'em both anyway

so I don’t think it matters which order they go in.

Well...

…if they don’t win Saturday, they don’t get a chance to win the 4th, so it does matter.

I’m not saying Harden shouldn’t go, but they better have confidence he will have his velocity and command.

The Pitcher Ted Lilly

Sung to the tune of Pictures of Lily by The Who

I used to wake up in the morning
I used to feel so bad
I got so sick of watching Cubs pitchers suck
I went and told my dad (Jim Hendry)

He said, ‘Son now here’s some little something’
As they stuck an IV in his arm
And now every fifth Cubs game ain’t quite so lonely
In fact I don’t feel no harm

The pitcher Ted Lilly, made my life so wonderful
The pitcher Ted Lilly, helped me sleep at night
The pitcher Ted Lilly, solved those rotation problems
The pitcher Ted Lilly, helped me feel alright

The pitcher Ted Lilly
Lilly, oh Lilly
Lilly, oh Lilly
The pitcher Ted Lilly

And then one day things weren’t quite so fine
He threw his glove that Lilly
I asked my dad what was on Lilly’s mind
He said, ‘Son, now don’t be silly’

He just gave up a home run to the D’Backs Chris Young
Oh, how I cried that night
If only I’d been his catcher at the time
It would have been alright

The pitcher Ted Lilly made my life so wonderful
The pitcher Ted Lilly helped me sleep at night

For me and Ted Lilly are together on a championship team
And I ask, ‘Hey Mister Molina, have you ever seen?’
The pitcher Ted Lilly!

I'm open to a miracle.

These were the original Who lyrics.

Ted Lilly asked that they be changed because, and I quote, “I don’t need to deal with that rock ’n roll shit.”

+1,000

Lilly is a hard-ass who won’t be intimidated. He is THE guy we need up tomorrow night. But I doubt it will happen because plans are already in place.

No reason those plans couldn't be changed.

What do they have to lose?

Beat me to it...

I don’t think the plan included starting 0-2.

Well, seeing he has benched Dome,

maybe there is hope Lou is willing to shake it up.

Can I just say

I have been so down today and this post is the first one that has brought an actual laugh to me. The picture and the first line did it….

I need a pitcher for my baseball team this Sunday

I am in L.A., if the cubs were to lose Sat., think Lilly would be interested? He’s supposed to pitch Sun., anyway…

Actually, if anyone is interested…

Buster Olney said a few days ago that the Braves would entertain offers for their 26 year old shortstop (who makes 450k) Yunel Escobar. He is a plus bat, a solid defender, and would move Theriot to his more appropriate position at second.

They are looking for a bat in return. Apparently Cox doesn't like the guy.

I couldn't even speculate what we'd have to send them in return, but I think he would be a good fit given his low salary, his productive bat, his position, and his age. I don't care if he's a jerk if he makes the team win more.

What would it take?
