Here is a screen shot of the fake Jumbotron that TBS created in Wrigley. I don't know...I guess I'm an old fogey. I don't like this at all. I was just wondering what the rest of you think.

I commented to my wife about that, too...
What a sacreligious thing. I couldn’t believe that I was seeing that.

I had not heard about this till Kasey sent it to me.
I’m not unalterably opposed to a Jumbotron, as long as the existing scoreboard is left alone. But for TBS to do this is a joke.

Sadly, the team decided to outdo them

They just show it occasionally for a few seconds or so, as they're going to commercial...
Yeah.. it’s looks ridiculous, and quite shocking the 1st time you see it on TV…. but it’s just a goofy special effect, and they’ve done it at all the other ballparks so far as well.

Just hope that someone in charge ends up liking them and gets the idea to find a way to keep ’em up for next baseball season.

Whoa that was weird...
My 1st sentence showed up twice, and the line break for the second sentence got ignored.

and i left out an important "doesn't" in that last line...
that should read: …. and “doesn’t” get the idea….

Someone propsed this somwhere else....
and I don’t know how you all feel about this but I wouldn’t be opposed to a wrigley renovation.
Close the park for a season, play at the Cell and come back to a ‘newish’ park that can carry a new century of some better memories.
Put in a new scoreboard, similar but better looking than above, add some more seats, and modernize it a little bit. But keep the ivy.
Alright, I’m done ranting. 2 Cubs playoff losses have really dimmed my spirits for the fall.

Dempster: I think the best is yourself. [ . . .] I think the worst player is D-Lee. I think he bets every time just to bet.

I wouldn't mind a rebuilt grandstand
along the lines of the rebuilt bleachers. Not sure if they could pull that off in one off-season. But keep the scoreboard.

I'm all for a renovation
Keep the marquis, footprint of the field, the scoreboard and bleachers. Everything else can go.

When I stopped at home on my break

They do this on all games on Fox, too.
Football, baseball…..they always show a replay on some type of scoreboard (that really isn’t “there”, like above).
Yeah, I think it looks like shit, too.
Should be an interesting off season....

I know they do it for every baseball and football stadium
but it’s still an eerie premonition of an undesired future.

I was at the games...
So I didn’t see this live on TV. When I was at work, a co-worker asked me when did they install a Jumbotron at Wrigley? I told him they didn’t and he told me about this. I then checked my recording of the game and I saw this. I have not seen any of the other playoff games, so I didn’t know if they did this for the other games.
As for the subject of Jumbotrons, I don’t like them. Yes, I am an old fogey – 51 years old and a season ticket holder since 84. I don’t need all that visual stiumulation on the damn thing to tell me to cheer or anything. I keep score myself, so I know who did what. The things would not replay any close plays anyway so replays on it , to me at least, are basically useless. In my opinion, Jumbotrons are nothing but a big distraction.

It made me sick personally, I even found myself yelling “don’t screw with our score bored TBS”..

I've been to
most of the ballparks in MLB, and I have to say that I have mixed feelings on the new HD jumbotrons. The first time I was at Turner Field with their current “biggest HD scoreboard” (I believe it’s since been surpased) – I was entranced by it to the point that I watched it more than the game. It was amazing. However, after I left, I realized that I could have watched much the same thing at home on my own TV.
With that said, I do see the benefit of having replay available at the park. This, every park has to have the “biggest in MLB” is for the birds. Just go with a nice replay board, and leaver Wrigley as is. It stands alone as a nice throwback to how baseball shoud be. There’s nothing wrong with the huge HD boards, just make sure you aren’t watching them more than the field…

After seeing the directTv blimp fly over wrigley during the playoffs....
the best solution would be to have one of those flying above the stadium, showing replays on the blimp. :)
