Never Say Never

Any other year I would say we are in a world of hurt, but the 2008 CUBS can destroy any team on any field.  All we have to do is score some f....ing runs.  If we score first on Saturday it's over.  This team has to many veterans to through in the towel and lay down.  We do need to make some changes however.

1) sit Spitter or tell him to quit swinging at ever pitch that is low and outside

2) put Fontenot at second base and Derosa in right

3) walk Manny even time even if the bases are loaded

4) never let Sean Marshall see the mound again

5) create runs early in the 3rd, 4th and 5th games by using the hit and run and bunting

That should be enough to get us to the NLCS.

GO CUBS!!!!!!!

Love your enthusiasm

Hopefully you’re right.

It sounds cliche, but one game at a time. Kuroda pitched well against the Cubs, but he’s been hit or miss the last month or so. Lilly can beat either Maddux or Kershaw…

Bats need to wake up, but more importantly, the guys need to relax. Can’t play your game if you’re too tight.

That's really nasty. If that doesn't bust the slump, you better have your pistol handy.

Um, I think she's married now.

I know she has kids. My wife gets Us magazine.

You're blaming Sean Marshall?

Did you see the pitch that Manny hit off of Marshall? I’m assuming you did because TBS showed the replay of that home run about 50 times. And who the hell is Spitter?

I'm open to a miracle.

Yeah, he handed his wedge to his caddie before he rounded the bases.

That was remarkable that he hit that out.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pitch that low get hit that far.

My guess is that Spiiter is Soriano

from the way he’s always spitting his seeds. Also because of the “swinging at every pitch that is low and outside” line. My third grade teacher would be proud of me for using context clues. That’s some consolation for today.

last hope

the last time a Joe Torre team had a close out game was against the Red Sox in 2004.
I was in Boston the night the Yankees beat the BoSox 19-8 to take a 3-0 lead and they were as despondent as we are. And we all know what happened there.

The biggest strength of this team all year has been its depth, so in games three and four we have to hope that it wins out.

And for the record Torre hasn’t won a postseason series since that one.

So while I’m out on the ledge, I’m not ready to jump just yet.

As all of you know...

… I’m usually the last one on the ledge. But I’m edging out there.

Stay off the ledge...

I keep myself safely off the ledge by remembering the final day of the 2006 season, when I felt compelled to boo as loud as I could, the only time that I’ve ever done that at Wrigley.

I think of the way that the Cubs began the 1997 season.

I think of Drew Hall or any one of the maddeningly awful players that have graced the Cubs during my lifetime.

Those instances made me wonder why I even bother supporting the team in the first place. The moments of extreme disappointment, like the 2nd inning field follies last night, are frustrating but they aren’t tinged with hopelessness. In other words, the last two nights haven’t made me shake my head and wonder why I do this to myself, as I did for much of the summer of 2006.

If nothing else, I can think of another team that was totally outclassed in the first two games of their post-season series, then miraculously won three straight. And no, I never thought that I’d use that series as a basis for optimistic thinking.

"Some people will look at a glass of water and say it's half-empty, while another guy will look at it and say it's half-full. A Cubs fan looks at the same glass and asks, "When's it gonna spill?" - Mike Royko

I'm a die hard Cubs fan...

I never quit, I never stop believing, I never give up. Even in the face of this terrible situation, when everything I see, everything I hear; tells me that I’m a fool to believe… I still believe.

I believe for those who have no faith, I believe for those have no hope, I believe for those who have given up. I believe because I want to believe it will happen, and I’m praying & believing that it will be willed into existence.
