Bruce Miles Declares DLee Off the Table

DGU posted this in a fanpost yesterday, but I think it deserves highlighting in a Fanshot. Most of us hold Bruce Miles in fairly high regard, so hear him now and believe him later that DLee won't be traded for Matt Cain, Randy Winn, Manny, ARod, a bucket of double play balls or anything else. Trade Scenario Gladiators, please bear this in mind when entering the Coliseum.

As long as Theriot and his weak arm is the SS, ya gotta keep DLee at 1b.

If any of the guys you mention

except Winn were actually available for Lee (well, and except Manny, given that he’s a FA), we would jump all over it.

Lee for Matt Cain? Where do I sign?

DLee can still play and athough his numbers are not allstar calliber, he still brings alot to the team. It seems like he and Dero are the only ones that showed up to the playoffs. I gladly keep him but move him out of the 3 hole to 2 or 5. I prefer 2 cause of less doubleplay chance especially if we get a speedy leadoff man. Those Cain, Gonzalez, Dunn rumors were of the charts ridiculous. I think if the Cubs did nothing else but rearrange their lineup that would be improvement enough.
Fuk, DLee, Soriano, Ramirez, Soto, Dero, Reed, and Theriot.

How many times must we do this?

The difference between Lee’s 2007 and 2008 playoffs, and Ramirez’ and Soriano’s 2007-08 playoffs, is like 4 bases-empty singles.

Lee was working on an 0-10 with runners on base for the 07-08 playoffs when he blooped a single with Fontenot on 1st in 2008 NLDS Game 3. With runners on base in the playoffs, he has 4 K, 3 GIDP, a popout, and a 6-3 that would have been a double play but for the fact that the runner was on 2nd. He’s still looking for his first playoff RBI.

DeRo, on the other hand, was great.

I agree that the idea that we could get Cain for Lee is insane. And if Teixiera is not a possibility, it may be impossible to improve at 1B this offseason. But Lee is in the decline phase of his career, and I’m glad that Hendry at least attempted to move him.

But Fukudome doesn’t belong anywhere near the top of the order. He doesn’t even belong on the 25-man roster until he can show that he’s capable of hitting better than the .185/.290/.270 he posted over the last 60+ games.

Fukudome should bat 8th. For Iowa.

Lee should bat 6th. It’s really a shame the way his career turned out after the injury, and it’s a shame that the Cubs’ gargantuan commitments to mediocrities like Lee & Soriano have left them incapable of pursuing the truly great free agents like Mark Teixiera.
