The Naysayers can Choke on This

This is my first year on BCB, and 3 seasons since I moved to this wonderful city of Chicago, upon which I immediately threw my allegiance toward the Cubs because I love National League baseball and teams that don't win a lot.

I have heard from you so called "die hard fans" that the team is choking, lacks character, sucks etc. Some of you have even gone on to say that you don't even want to watch the games, or wonder why you even root for the cubs in the first place. Do you not understand intrinsic paradox with your logic? YOU"RE CHOKING! You can't handle the pressure. Plain and simple, after watching a 163 games this season, you can't stand to watch game 164, and quite frankly, that makes me wonder how deep your allegiance runs. Are you the same type of fan who only roots for their team when they are playing well?

When I moved here, I could have easily rooted for the White Sox who just previously won a championship, but I opted to root for 66-96 Cubs.

However, take solace in this. When we signed Rich Harden we had a fairly comfortable lead in first place. We didn't sign him to get into the playoffs, by July it was fairly obvious we were playoff bound. Hendry traded for him to prevent a 3 game sweep in the NLDS. Our starting playoff rotation was set up to not fail, or more specifically, not get swept.

To say with utmost confidence that we will win the world series, or even this series, well, if I said that... I'd be lying. However, what I can say is that we will win tomorrow. And in order to win the world series, or this series, we have to win tomorrow. Baby steps. This is why I like baseball. For a team who hasn't one a world series in 100 years, you didn't think it would easy, did you? It wouldn't be poetic, it wouldn't do justice for the 100 years of misery or failure.

As Al has said throughout this season, "enjoy the ride, remember where you were at all times during the season, as it will be a memorable one".

The 2008 Chicago Cubs' Baseball season is not over yet. 1 more game.

Personally...

I’d rather see 3 more NLDS games.. not just 1 more game… but we’ll see.

One thing you learned as a Cubs fan: when you bought you ticket, you could bank on seeing the bottom of the ninth.

Make History!

Come out with some passion! Be aggressive on the bases. Harden should buzz Manny inside!

I dont need the speech...

…fax it to the team. They need the wake up.

I want Pinella to go nuts on an umpire throw a base and kick dirt on him!

In 1976 Lou’s mentor Billy Martin went crazy on an Umpire in game 4 of the 1976 World series.

I agree

The negativety does get old. Hell I am upset, but all that does is makes the days longer, and you become far less productive as a human.
Inning by inning tonight, play hardball Cubs. Lets make this interesting.

I'm with you guys.

Hell, all we have to do is win a game tonight. And then, all we have to do is win a game tomorrow. We have won three in a row many times this year. I’m with this team to the very end. And win or lose, this is my team. Let the other fans? abandon ship at the first sign of adversity. Not me.

cubs

the dream season that was,nt. i read that phrase recently in a book i recieved this morning.about the 08 season??? no it was refering to the 69 season.it applies to both.sorry guys but this team is beaten and it,s over.look in the dodgers dugout and you see guys laughing and loose. the cubs dugout you see 25 tense players waiting to get beat.same as last year they forgot to show up and same as last year i expected them to win.this was a very good team,i guess the 100 year thing was too much for them to handle.scary that the rays might win a world series while this great team is sitting home.wait till next year

Personally I find your whole tone presumptuous and arrogant

I’ve been a Cub fan since 1971-My father’s been a Cub fan since 1940-My grandfather attented the Cubs last WS game and so I really don’t need a lecture on how to conduct myself from somebody who’s Cubs fandom goes “all the way back to 2005”.
I just love it when some “Johnny come lately’ decides to teach the rest of us how to be "real fans”. What right do you have to tell anybody that we shouldn’t be frustrated and angry by the way the first two playoff games have gone? Some of us care too much to just automatically put our heads in the clouds and mindlessly cheerlead.
That being said, I haven’t remotely given up on this team. I may get angry but I always come back and I always cheer them on. I’ll be in front of the tv tonight with family and friends fully expecting the Cubs to rebound with a career game from Rich Harden.
And if they do lose this game and the series, I’ll be frustrated and angry but I’ll also be right back here to live and die with the team I love next year.

I'll keep watching, thus I'm not choking.

But I don’t like what I have seen so far. Sorry, but I’m no Polyanna. And I don’t drink blue Koolaide, either.
