The Division series should be 7 games

A Seven game series is the only real test. In a 5 game series a team can get lucky. The best team wins over 7 games. There is no reason for an 8 day 5 game series like Boston-LAA. You can add the two extra games without extending the series beyond where it is now and with having one off day for travel and in between a series. I mean the Sox-Rays series didn't start until Thursday that is 3 off days for the Rays. In the LCS there will be three off days instead of two. There is no reason for that. You can keep the season at 162 games too. the Owners won't give up any games. Lets have three seven game series. The Cubs would have won a seven game series in 1984.

Actually...

I’d like to see two seven game series and a 9-game world series like back in the old days. That’s a real battle there!

Only problem is..

..you’d have awfully cold weather in cold cities in the middle of December

I once heard someone (can't remember who) suggest the WS be 9 games

with the first two being at two neutral sites like the All star game is. For example this year they could picked Yankee Stadium for game 1 and Shea for game 2 since they are both closing. I’m not sure I agree with it but it’s an interesting idea.

They tried a nine--game WS in 1919 and 1920.

Fans didn’t like it — too long.

IIRC wasn’t the first World Series also a best of nine? The Boston Pilgrims (now the Red Sox) won it 5 games to 3 over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

True.

Doesn’t mean it’d be good now, though.

Seven games would be nice...

…but you have to do something to shorten the season a bit, so you’re not playing the World Series in November.

Because of World Baseball Classic...

..World Series IS scheduled for Nov in ’09

Double headers in the division series

My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.

Yeah, that'd go over real big with the players.

Plus, you’d be watching games at 3 am. Well, YOU wouldn’t, in Ireland, but WE would.

Don't you think the players hate the five game format too?

I know it’s a stupid suggestion, but there’s got be a way to find a few extra days somewhere between April and October.

It should be 7 games, but what happened the last 2 games was not bad luck for the Cubs

or good luck for the Dodgers, we’ve been playing mediocre baseball for the past 4-6 weeks. The Dodgers have played better in every phase. They have totally kicked our butts so far.

series

i agree,7 games. 162 games played and then wiped out in 3. no good

Actually

It may not be a bad thing for the Cubs that this is a five game series. If we had lost the first two at home in a seven game series, we’d be going to LA needing to win two games out of three, and then come home and win two more games to win the series.

In this five game series, we still need to win two games in LA, and then come home and win only one.

The margin of error is smaller, but the task to be performed to dig out of the hole is easier – at least in sheer quantity of wins required.

Well...

…Personally, I wouldn’t mind a 7-game series this year for the Cubbies… but actually, I like the 5 game series in this round.

Oh well…wishful dreaming.
