its not just the error
he only had 90 RBIs batting 3rd for the NL team that scored the most runs
he's 5-9 in the series
complaining about a guy who is nearly the only one hitting in the entire series seems like misguided frustration

absolutely...he's batting over .550

Dude, some of these guys are not fit for broadcasting.
When i watched We. game you have Darling and Gwynn on TV, their voices are both agitating in general. They know the game but they are unpleasant to lstent to as a team. They should have chosen another smooth voice to go with either Darling or Gwynn. TBS is cheap 2nd rate B.S., in my opinion.
i understand that...i dont really like it either...
but i see people pissing and moaning about it all the time. the same people that piss and moan about trolls and people being negative towards the team, its hypocrytical

What's so bad about these announcers?
I’m serious. I heard a REALLY bad announcer (Ed Farmer?) on the radio for the Sox the other day…slurred speech, no emotion or expressivity at all. These guys on TV sound OK to me.
Stockton knows no ones name
and all you get from Gywnn is helium voice.

This roster won 97 games.
And was easily the most talented cubs team of my lifetime. They are having some serious mental problems against the dodgers, who (btw) we wouldn’t be playing if we had beaten the Brewers.
This isn’t a “new owner” “front office” problem. Hendry has been great. This is pure mental stuff. It’s the hardest thing to fix and they just need a breakthrough moment to get through it.

I’d rather see a shorter regular season and 7 game playoffs.
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
And why all the off days in the playoffs?
They play every day for 6 months, why games every other day for a month?
Makes zero sense.

They need to consider shortening the regular season if they do that
It’s already ridiculous to be playing baseball the last week of October. Of course this will never happen because of the revenue that would be lost.
I agree HBCB...
Just one of the ways they’ve screwed up baseball.

A best of 7 series is more statistically significant than a best of 5 series....
and that can be proven mathematically. But the MLB is not interested in significance.
"I'm not much of a chemistry guy, you know. Chemistry to me is a pinch-hit double with the bases loaded"--Jim Frey, Chicago Tribune, 1985.
Well, of course it's "more" significant. A 29-game series is more significant than either.
You can’t keep saying “well we just need more games.”

Yes, but the key is whether or not it is less than the confidence level....
and that can be computed exactly.

I also hate the whole

Not by that much.
If you’re really interested in figuring out which team is the best, you don’t need a playoff at all – you have the regular season results already. The whole allure of the playoffs is how short the series are.
A short series isn't significantly more luck-based than a long one.
Really, a team that drops the first three in a best of five is probably going to lose a best of seven, as well.
by Dongfang Hong on Oct 4, 2008 10:42 PM CDT up reply actions
I think you see the odds of the best team winning a best-of-seven...
…go up 2-3 percent, from a best of five. Still only about 60-65%.
Nice AB Lee!

If this team can’t even win a playoff series … when will the Cubs ever win a World Series?
This game isn’t over, and this series isn’t either. But pondering that question makes me very, very sad.

This is
the best Cubs team that I have ever seen. I spent every day following this team one way or another, and I am greatful for every thrilling moment they have gave me this summer. 2008 was a magical season that I won’t soon forget. Win or lose, I am going to sit right here and watch the rest of this season. Who’s with me?

Doesn’t mean anybody’s better than the Cubs, just luckier.
