Yes, unfairly
Almost every one of these players has helped us win at some point in the season. Remember? That was one of the great things about this team.
Have some of the players sucked? Has there been a teamwide slump? Yes. But to say that a player who hasn’t played well in three f*cking games is worthless is stupid. I’m sorry, I’ve tried to avoid saying something like that, but it’s stupid.

is Derek Jeter a great player?
The answer is NO, but he has rocks and shows up when it counts. It is not just Ok anymore to get to the postseason. We need some heros on this team, not selfish one dimensional guys who lose their one dimension the moment the calender turns to October. I know it is just three games, but those three game are more important than lead off homers against the Pirates in June!!!!!!

No, he's not a great fielder
But this crap abou him being a leadoff hitter is absolute BS. A leadoff hitter is guaranteed to hit first once in a game. Once. I’d much rather have a good hitter getting a lot of at bats than not. If you could get lots of players with plus bats and plus gloves, you’d probably need a $300 million payroll. And, as the Yankees have shown, that doesn’t always win it either.

What you're saying is totally unfounded in reality.
He’s had his good moments in the postseason, and he’s had his bad moments. On the average, he’s about as good as he is in the regular season.
The same is true for A-Rod.

by Dongfang Hong on Oct 4, 2008 11:46 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Okay, let's just trade for a lot of players who are good in the postseason
After all, the point is not to win more games during the season so you get into the playoffs. The point is to have players who come up big in the postseason and just hope and pray you somehow get there.
And Jeter isn’t great? Okay, you’ve shown your baseball IQ there.

Than one who’s not good in the season (though your example was a horrible one) and “turns it on” in the postseason.
Because a roster with 25 of those players (who are largely mythical anyway) would be screwed in a divisional race.
