It's just that I feel so cheated......
I’ve watched all season and thought this was the best Cub team in my lifetime.
And to watch them not even put up a fight, I am simply stunned.
It just seems like the last 6 months have been a complete waste of time.
I just can’t believe this has ended so quickly and painfully……..
Hey, it's a new century!
Well…97 times this summer it was great. All the wins, comebacks, great performances. Hell it was fun on this board too (ie. Milton (miss it), TWSS, Bill Murray, FIRSTS, and what nots). It was a great season with an extremley disappointing ending
2008 Cubs: Who needs nine innings, when you only need a 7th?
A mystery that will never be answered
How can a team that won 97 games in the regular season play so badly in the division series and lose 3 straight?
easy...walk too many people...make errors...and leave runners on base.
Also taking strikes and swinging at balls will help.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

Hey
I got home from work at 10:30 and was really into it. I didn’t have the energy to type and watch. Guess I thought focusing all my attention on the game would help. I had ultimate hope clear through the 8th inning. I mean where did these kick butt relievers come from??? If I had to come up with a weakness on this team it was most of them.
Just craziness. How sickening. Can’t even put into words the other things I feel right now. They just couldn’t overcome the mental part of the game. Everyone had a failure at some point during these three games. Hell, some of them all three games. I will never understand how this happens. Year after year, after year, after year……after year, after year.
My heart is breakin, head is achin, stomach is churnin, acid reflux is burnin, but I will ALWAYS be a Cubs fan.
Glad you are still here :-)
Feels very empty tonight. I don’t blame anyone for calling ti a night though.

I am still here...just got back
from the bar…had to drown the feelings a little bit

Were you in good company anyways?
Misery loves company.

Not reallly1
A lonely townie bar….by I had the Captain onboard at least

That's good. You can always count on the Captain.
I thought about heading out after the game, but I am on borderline Cards territory. Didn’t feel like getting arrested by the people I work with for beating the shit out of some mouthy drunk Cards fan. Instead I had a smoke while I took down my Cubs flag, grabbed a Coors Light, and got on here.

I live in Maryville, IL
and work in STL… I kept a low profile at the bar…no cubs stuff. Just wanted to drink alone and not hear anything.

That was a good idea then.
I am in Canton about halfway between STL and Chicago. It’s usually fun to be here, but tonight, I couldn’t take that risk.

Where do we go from here...
The offseason should be interesting…
They should compete again next year, but I fear the injury bug. Likewise, I fear that unless the add an impact bat, that pressure will kill the current guys since they have yet to prove that they can do it.

I tried to come up with an answer,
but my brain can hardly digest the ugliness of the last week. Can’t come up with a plan yet.

I like to think that DeRosa, Johnson and Soto are having a drinking contest right now...
and they’re going to destroy their hotel rooms tonight.

Reed
Is probably doing swings with the bat that he never got to use.

We lost because Reed didn't play?

Oh God know...
But I think he deserved at least one AB at some point…

Exactly
It’s not that I think that he would have hit some bases empty grand slams. It’s just one more little thing to be pissed off about.
My extra gripe
is that Lilly got put on game 4. It’s too bad. I thought he was a game 3 shoe in. Oh well.
My heart is breakin, head is achin, stomach is churnin, acid reflux is burnin, but I will ALWAYS be a Cubs fan.
Well...I understand the rational for saving him till LA
Not a homer park…which was his achille’s heal all year.
But he was the best pitcher down the stretch though

Or game 2
I wanted Harden in game 1, followed by lilly and dempster. I like Z and he pitched a hell of a game, but I never wanted him in game 2.
In the end...
It really came down to the hitters and fielders…Nobody swung the bats outside of Dero and DLee. Hardly any walks…too aggresive, failed to take things the other way. No real leadoff hitter to work counts.

What was Dome doing in there? Sure he mustered a hit, but why not put someone fresh in the show? We will never know.

I would like to think
that DLee isn’t going to “just forget about it” like he just said in his interview. I guess I get what he is saying, but to a me, as a Cubs fan, I want him to cry hard enough he pukes in the shower tonight and then has uncontrolable dry heaves for an hour.
My heart is breakin, head is achin, stomach is churnin, acid reflux is burnin, but I will ALWAYS be a Cubs fan.
They said the same thing last year
Hell…they said the same thing this year; That 07 left a bitter taste in their month and that they had something to prove in 08. It was almost a carbon copy of 07.

Thus proving they can't do what they say and just forget.
Truly, should they be able to just forget? That’s not a healthy way to cope with anything in life, let alone something this big. If they were consulting a shirink at all, I hope he is fired. The new one better start finding a way to help them work through these things individually and as a team and use them to fuel a ravenous hunger to win.
My heart is breakin, head is achin, stomach is churnin, acid reflux is burnin, but I will ALWAYS be a Cubs fan.
I just don't know where they go from here
It is imperative that they find an impact everyday player who has experienced success and strives in pressure sitautions. I don’t who that is, but they have to find him. Otherwise, this is just like the late 60s/early 70s where we had great position players but failed to take advantage of them.
