Who cares?

The offense will stop reporting October 1st, 2009. What’s the point?

by IllinoisCubs on Oct 5, 2008 12:21 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Unfathomable and unacceptable.

These guys showed little to no fire, desire, or emotion in this series or last year’s. I wag my finger at Soriano, who not one time stopped pressing at the plate, and looked like a black hole of gloom on the bench. The Cubs can make the postseason without him . . . I will be among the first to say he MUST be traded, even if the club has to eat massive amounts of his contract. The lack of postseason success for him alone has set up this team for offensive futility in October each of the past two years.

I just wish SOMEBODY, ANYBODY on this team would forget about the curse crap and the pressure and just perform like a professional in the postseason!

I will always be a Cubs fan, and they had a superb season that I will remember fondly for many years. . . but it will also be remembered with a bitter taste and a stain on all of the efforts that came before because of this deplorable lack of professionalism and performance, mostly on offense.

Someone has to realize just getting there will NEVER be good enough again, right?

Rays over Phillies

It’s the only logical conclusion, if you give it thought.

Red Soxs Season

Those guys can play! I think the Red Sox face the Brewers in the World Series. Going 6 games to the Red Soxs.

I think Manny and Joe Torre pay a visit to Boston in the World Series.

Pathetic

by Theriot: SonofChuckNorris on Oct 5, 2008 12:24 AM CDT   0 recs

Disappointed, but it's been a good year

I have to admit, I’m not completely surprised. They’ve been leaving far too many men on base for much of the season. As awful and disappointed as I am right now, I do have to admit that this was one hell of a season. We’ll start over again in 6 months, and do it right this time.

by thuecksd on Oct 5, 2008 12:24 AM CDT   0 recs

I feel like I just wasted 6 months

I followed this team, like so many of you, day in and day out since Valentine’s Day. For this? They just find new and creative ways to break my heart.

I’ll start the blame game tomorrow. For now, I just want to cry.

Again I no longer wonder why

I used to wonder why players don’t have any feelings for the fans. Can’t say I blame them after all the stuff posted here.

When you attack their play it’s one thing. But calling them gutless and such because they didn’t perform is another.

Thngs of worth are worth fighting for regardless of the odds.

dont act like the good guy here. if youre a true cub fan you should be mad.

Bull...we should expect more. This was choke job, pure and simple.

Its sickens me to think about how these guys played. Just atrocious.

What a difference a year makes

’07 Playoff Cubs vs. ’08 Cubs Playoff team – no there is a series for the ages!

by rmonday557 on Oct 5, 2008 12:45 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

In terms of Ramirez and Soriano

They have millions of dollars to comfort them. Especially in this economy, I don’t pity them at all.

If I performed at my job in the clutch the same way they perform, I would get FIRED! Them? They still get their millions.

by IllinoisCubs on Oct 5, 2008 12:34 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually

Actually if you performed for 162 days and had 3 bad days you would not get fired.

With fans like you no wonder players don’t feel much connection to the fans.

Thngs of worth are worth fighting for regardless of the odds.

when the fuck is soriano and ramirez going to show up?

D Lee showed the fuck up today but the other 24 men did not. I’m tired of this shit. I was so excited for the playoffs to start but I rather have seen the Cardinals play in the playoffs then this shit team. Two years in a row. That should hurt. bet you they’ll make it three. This is just great. I’m so disappointed with the effort and the lack of clutch hitting. and btw chicago stop making fucking rallies because they are for naught. I’m tired of this the team and i hope fucking soriano either gets traded or is away for this team because hes a little puny punk ass bitch that can’t produce when the game is on teh line. Matt Holiday is there for the taking. lets get him in here

by lexmarklover on Oct 5, 2008 12:28 AM CDT   0 recs

Im pretty sure

its MLB that started those rallies but I agree…you dont celebrate that look where it has got us.

by AndHart120 on Oct 5, 2008 12:44 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

And

And it had nothing to do with the outcome of the postseason.

Some idiots are probably going to blame celebrating the division on this.

Mabe they didn’t celebrate enough!

Where was the Sox rally?

by Cold Snowden on Oct 5, 2008 2:47 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It is MLB

who does the rally. They did for all the teams who had clinched early. The Sox were still playing or had just finished and there wasn’t a time frame for them to have one.

by tbizzle83 on Oct 5, 2008 12:41 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

How many titles will Manny help the Dodgers get before he tires of LA?

The answer is more than Soriano will ever get for Chicago.

by Fraggin Judge on Oct 5, 2008 12:44 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The game ended the way it was supposed to.

The last two outs were by the Japanese Fraud and the Brainless Hacker, who for the nth time swung at a ball in the dirt.

All this team did during the regular season was thrown out the window. It’s meaningless now. This was disgusting, but I feel like the owner of an injured racehorse who’s relieved that his beloved thoroughbred was put out of its misery. When your starter runs out of gas after only 70 or so pitches and your hitters bail on the good pitches and swing at everything low and away, the result is obvious. My heart goes to those fans, especially the young ones who are getting their first taste of this futility called the Cubs.

I don’t know if a digit will be added to the sign on that building behind the outfield at Wrigley. We’ll see as we’re all forced to wait till’ next year… again!

There is a difference about calling a guy what he is and being a racist.

Fukudome was a bust and his reputation was a fraud. He can prove me wrong next year. But I’ll call him the RF Fraud so it doesn’t sound race-related. Thanks for the eye-opening comment. it was helpful. All I can say is there was no racist intention behind my comment.

I can't believe it

"Just win tonight" - derv

by derv on Oct 5, 2008 12:44 AM CDT   0 recs

Just Some Observations.

1. Soriano hitting leadoff is not a good idea in the post season. It’s ok during the season because he can hammer mediocre pitchers that can’t locate but against elite pitchers he simply does not know how to work them, go the other way or walk. Giving him the most at bats in a critical series is a mistake and sets a bad tone.

2. This post season and last post season the Cubs had a poor approach at the plate. You can’t swing for the fences against top pitchers. Instead of concentrating on getting on base and putting the ball in play they took big, anxious swings and showed little patience.

3. Despite Dempster’s fine year, starting a pitcher in game one of a short series that had never started a playoff game is probably not a good idea. because you really have no clue how he’s going to respond. If he blows it, it starts things off poorly.

4. The Cub’s regulars had not been swinging the bats well in September. I think the last 2 games against the Brewers should have been treated as playoff games to get into a groove. Especially the one against CC. Instead, the offensive approach against CC this time was poor, allowing him to pitch a complete game with around 120 pitches.
I was vey concerned at that point .

5. The above is how I felt before the first pitch was even thrown.

lou isn't swingin the bat

the only things lou has done that we could be disappointed with is start dempster instead of Z game 1, and not hit Theriot #2 on Wedneday. Ramirez, Soriano, and Fukodome failed at the plate and the infield played as if there was a gun pointed to their heads. Lou isn’t swingin the bat, throwing the ball, or pitching. the players have to play. the excuse to blame the manager is BS.
