Who cares?

I think it finally hit home to the people I work with how disgusted I am today. My boss is going to the White Sox game, and some co-workers were making some, “lucky bastard,” type rumblings. My response was, “good for him, he can have them. I wouldn’t go if you paid me.”

They couldn’t believe, as much as I love baseball, that I would turn down playoff tickets. But I honestly would. I went to a few playoff games in 2005, but I don’t think I would have the stomach for it this year.

Postseason baseball without the Cubs is like, well……..just not as much fun as it should be!

Yep, I'm picking the Rays over the White Sox.

And the Red Sox over the Angels. Rays go to the World Series and face the Dodgers.

So this is how it ends.

No offense Al....

….but I can’t stand the sight of these posts. It just reminds me of the fact that we’re done. It’s not like that reality is escapable yet (especially with all my Astro fan coworkers coming by to ask me what happened…). I’m anxious for any news to come out of the organization to change the topic and the light the way for us to the promised land (of 2009 that is).

What news do you think you will see two days after a playoff loss?

Geez. Give ’em time to mourn like we have.

No significant player moves are going to happen till November anyway.

I'm actually rooting for the Phillies or Rays

as they have gone the longest without a championship.

Plus, the Rays are VERY easy to like and play great ball.

A good friend of mine is Phillie Phanatic

He has been very supportive in my “time of loss.” We often go to the games when the Phillies are in town and talk good-natured trash about each others teams, too. So it is only fair that I root for his Phillies now that the Cubs are over.

Now that the Cubs are out of it...

…I’m actually looking forward to watching/following the remainder of the postseason. No emotional rollercoaster. No stress. Total objectivity. Just the love of the game and the enjoyment of watching great pitchers do their thing.

Don’t get me wrong – I’d give it all up in a second to have the Cubs in there. But the season’s over for our boys. Savor the last few sips of baseball before the bottle goes empty for another year.

So this is how it ends.

by dat cubfan daver on Oct 6, 2008 4:05 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

this makes me even more sick

why would BLEED CUBBIE BLUE be promoting the White Sox? This reminds of when my ex-boyfriend bought sox tickets on my birthday when I’m a die hard Cubs fan.

I thought BCB was also promoting the sport we all enjoy, I agree with dave, now that the Cubs are out of it, I’ll watch just to see some more baseball before its over.

I don't think he's promoting them

This thread is for the Red Sox/Angels game too. The thread is agnostic, not supporting any one team.

by SuperContext on Oct 6, 2008 4:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's for baseball discussion.

Steven and Dave are correct. It’s not promoting one team or another. Note that there were three other teams mentioned other than the White Sox.

You’re a little oversensitive, I think.

the last bastion of Cubdom that I’m happy to be affiliated with looked to be promoting the evil sox fans. Sox fans that I work with actually wore anti-cub shirts during game 3. I hate those people.

You're way off base.

Nothing was “promoting” anything. It was simply a discussion thread for the two playoff games occurring today. Period.

but if they win the WS, I will be really pissed off. I can’t even count how many freaking expansion teams will have won the WS before we even have gotten back to it. That’s sad.

The Sux were a tough team, albeit flawed because of no small ball ability, but the Rays beat them with ease.

What I can't understand is why they keep posting here.

Maybe to try and seek validation for switching to a very good baseball team this year— which I can’t comprehend; what kind of satisfaction would that bring to someone if you’ve followed them for 2 days? And then to libel this site? The pure contradiction in themselves makes me so many frustrated, and angered, emotions all into one.

It’s so beyond my comprehension of talking trash on a site that they called their own for 6 months to only switch to a different site, but to still talk here. If you’re not a Cubs fan, that’s great, but don’t call yourself an “ex-Cubs” fan. They were never true fans to begin with.

Well put;

there isn’t any such thing as an “ex-Cubs fan.” You either are one or you aren’t. The internet allows folks to act as dumb as they want without any Darwinian consequence. A hobbled Sox team battled but the better team won.

Crowd was great, into it and cheering their team from start to finish. No crying, no tears, no fits of anger did I observe in the crowd and nary a thought of the team 8 miles to the north that finished the post-season hastily.

At least the Beertown refugees got one Series win in '95 and had half the pennants in the 90's

and had another Championship in ‘57 when they had Spahn and Sain and prayed for rain and I guess it didn’t rain enough in ’58 when they lost to the Damn Yankees. We had 10 pennants, but all done by ’45.

daily show

I was just watching the Daily show and they had a segment on “the stupid voters” with a pie chart separating them out. After segments of the pie chart such as “dimwits” and “shaved gorillas” the final group was “cubs fans.”

Does Soriano's defense at 2B really cost more runs than in LF? He makes a lot fewer errors in LF since misplays and mental mistakes aren't figured into the stats, but I have to imagine that his mistakes are more physical at 2B. Any thoughts? Is there a statistic on this?
