Who cares?

I think it finally hit home to the people I work with how disgusted I am today. My boss is going to the White Sox game, and some co-workers were making some, “lucky bastard,” type rumblings. My response was, “good for him, he can have them. I wouldn’t go if you paid me.”

They couldn’t believe, as much as I love baseball, that I would turn down playoff tickets. But I honestly would. I went to a few playoff games in 2005, but I don’t think I would have the stomach for it this year.

Sigh

Postseason baseball without the Cubs is like, well……..just not as much fun as it should be!

Get 'em on, Get 'em over, Get 'em in!

My Picks

ALDS ends tonight

Rays and BoSox win.

Yep, I'm picking the Rays over the White Sox.

And the Red Sox over the Angels. Rays go to the World Series and face the Dodgers.

So this is how it ends.

No offense Al....

….but I can’t stand the sight of these posts. It just reminds me of the fact that we’re done. It’s not like that reality is escapable yet (especially with all my Astro fan coworkers coming by to ask me what happened…). I’m anxious for any news to come out of the organization to change the topic and the light the way for us to the promised land (of 2009 that is).

What news do you think you will see two days after a playoff loss?

Geez. Give ’em time to mourn like we have.

No significant player moves are going to happen till November anyway.

Put up Bear and Big -10 Notre Dame football "forums"

The best defense is a good offense.....Lou Pinella...still hasn't managed the Cubs to a post season win. D. Lee still doesn't have a post seasson RBI for Cubs...ditto for Soriano

Who's playing?

Oh wait, I don’t care.

Anyone seen Bruce Dern in town?

Because if he could hi-jack a blimp, fill it with nails and sail it over the Cell… forget it, that’s just mean – and not a very good movie either.

by the nth on Oct 6, 2008 3:58 PM CDT   0 recs

I'm actually rooting for the Phillies or Rays

as they have gone the longest without a championship.

Plus, the Rays are VERY easy to like and play great ball.

A good friend of mine is Phillie Phanatic

He has been very supportive in my “time of loss.” We often go to the games when the Phillies are in town and talk good-natured trash about each others teams, too. So it is only fair that I root for his Phillies now that the Cubs are over.

by SuperContext on Oct 6, 2008 4:09 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ha

at first i thought you were talking about the actual Philly Phanatic

Philly is a great town

and I was just there in the spring.

If any set of fans is more manic in their support of their baseball club, it’s Phillies fans.

Now that the Cubs are out of it...

…I’m actually looking forward to watching/following the remainder of the postseason. No emotional rollercoaster. No stress. Total objectivity. Just the love of the game and the enjoyment of watching great pitchers do their thing.

Don’t get me wrong – I’d give it all up in a second to have the Cubs in there. But the season’s over for our boys. Savor the last few sips of baseball before the bottle goes empty for another year.

So this is how it ends.

by dat cubfan daver on Oct 6, 2008 4:05 PM CDT   0 recs

Yep

I agree, even though the cubs are out I’m still gonna watch baseball. Still a shame the cubs are not part of this thread.

by The Stig on Oct 6, 2008 4:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

this makes me even more sick

why would BLEED CUBBIE BLUE be promoting the White Sox? This reminds of when my ex-boyfriend bought sox tickets on my birthday when I’m a die hard Cubs fan.

are you trying to get rid of us Al ?

by coral on Oct 6, 2008 4:06 PM CDT   0 recs

Hmmm

I thought BCB was also promoting the sport we all enjoy, I agree with dave, now that the Cubs are out of it, I’ll watch just to see some more baseball before its over.

by StevenABQ on Oct 6, 2008 4:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't think he's promoting them

This thread is for the Red Sox/Angels game too. The thread is agnostic, not supporting any one team.

by SuperContext on Oct 6, 2008 4:11 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It's for baseball discussion.

Steven and Dave are correct. It’s not promoting one team or another. Note that there were three other teams mentioned other than the White Sox.

You’re a little oversensitive, I think.

by Al on Oct 6, 2008 9:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

yes I am oversensitive

the last bastion of Cubdom that I’m happy to be affiliated with looked to be promoting the evil sox fans. Sox fans that I work with actually wore anti-cub shirts during game 3. I hate those people.

by coral on Oct 6, 2008 10:02 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

You're way off base.

Nothing was “promoting” anything. It was simply a discussion thread for the two playoff games occurring today. Period.

to make things even worse this week

i work in a resterant that is owned by a UAL captain, he has flown the cubs and the white sox before, including the sox trip down to tampa the night they clinched the ALCD. if the sox win tonight we have to make a catering order for them tomorrow morning, ugh.

1-0 top of the first; BJ Upton HR. This should be good.

by Weeghman Park on Oct 6, 2008 4:11 PM CDT   0 recs

I still will pull for the White Sox

since I have so many close friends/family members that are Sox fans…No reason for me to root against them just since I’m pissed off about the Cubs, IMHO…

Not that the Rays don't deserve it

but if they win the WS, I will be really pissed off. I can’t even count how many freaking expansion teams will have won the WS before we even have gotten back to it. That’s sad.

The Sux were a tough team, albeit flawed because of no small ball ability, but the Rays beat them with ease.

What I can't understand is why they keep posting here.

Maybe to try and seek validation for switching to a very good baseball team this year— which I can’t comprehend; what kind of satisfaction would that bring to someone if you’ve followed them for 2 days? And then to libel this site? The pure contradiction in themselves makes me so many frustrated, and angered, emotions all into one.

It’s so beyond my comprehension of talking trash on a site that they called their own for 6 months to only switch to a different site, but to still talk here. If you’re not a Cubs fan, that’s great, but don’t call yourself an “ex-Cubs” fan. They were never true fans to begin with.

by NittanyCub on Oct 6, 2008 8:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Well put;

there isn’t any such thing as an “ex-Cubs fan.” You either are one or you aren’t. The internet allows folks to act as dumb as they want without any Darwinian consequence. There’s still lots of good baseball left this fall and I am going to be watching it all and waiting for April 6, 2009 expectantly.

Tommie Agee was out.

At the game.

A hobbled Sox team battled but the better team won.

Crowd was great, into it and cheering their team from start to finish. No crying, no tears, no fits of anger did I observe in the crowd and nary a thought of the team 8 miles to the north that finished the post-season hastily.

Yes, but...

… I’m not much of a football fan. I go to one game a year and enjoy it. Outside of that, if I catch it on TV, fine, if not that’s fine too. I cheer the Bears but my heart is not really into it. My heart is with baseball. May the season begin soon!

Great season in Chicago baseball. Too bad it ended so soon for both teams.

I think I’ll cheer for the Phillies and the Rays.

GO TEAM, GO!

Here’s my usual preference: Sox first, then AL Central then AL.

Rays vs. Other Sox? I’ll wholeheartedly root for the Rays.

Dodgers vs. Phillies? I don’t have a strong favorite here. I guess I’ll pull for the Phillies.

I’m tired of the Other Sox and as a result IF they win the AL Pennant then I might end up rooting for the NL, for the first time in ages.

I love the game and playoff baseball is interesting to watch… yes, I’d love to have the Cubs still there.

But the last game of the year, three weeks from now, whoever is in it, will be a sad event when it’s over, because then there’s no more baseball till February — not April — spring training isn’t that far away.
