Nothing more to say...
or is there?
Yea, I've got a little more to say.........
I don't know how all the season numbers came out but to me the Cubs were/are the best team in the NL.
This is exactly why I hate the playoffs, and for those who say "if you can't win a playoff then you're not a champion" I say "BULL!"
I liked baseball much better when the two best teams went to the World Series, period. Otherwise, what's the point in playing a season? It's like hockey.
I haven't been here since before the playoffs started but have been watching what the cubs have been doing and my heart has been sinking right along with you guys.
I feel your pain...not as badly as you do, but it makes me sick none the less.

you can take solace
in the fact that no matter how few rounds of playoffs you had, if the Cubs played like they did in this series, they wouldn’t be champions
in the end the pressure and the weight of this “drought” was going to be on the Cubs players shoulders no matter how many or how few wins they had to get

I've enjoyed getting your perspective
Sadly, it’s rare that a fan of one team can be as gracious to fans of another, especially a rival, as you’ve been.

Thanks for that.
I am a bit of a Cubs fan…after the Cardinals are out of it. But that is a little different, I admit. I don’t hate the Cubs just because they are a rival. I grew up just a stone’s throw away from Sportsman’s Park. I lived in Illinois but I could almost see the ballpark from where I lived…So I became a Cardinal fan.
BUT I LIVED IN ILLINOIS!!! So I like the Cubs too. It’s not that weird to me.
What IS weird is that I can’t say the same about the Bears. :)

Fair enough...
But I am still waiting for someone to explain to me how the Cubs play any differently in a four-game series.
With all the walks, errors, and men left on base, we are looking at 3-0 going into Sunday, and probably no better than a 4-1 Series loss.
I can be nostalgic too, but the fact is, at some point, you have to beat the same team 4 times out of 7. Nothing I saw in three games showed me the Cubs could do that.

There could be a lot of reasons...
they could be hurt, they could be tired, they could be not concentrating, they could be anything.
have the Cubs not lost three straight this year at some point? it’s the same thing. why would they play any differently in any given series?
What I’m saying is that they shouldn’t have to play the Dodgers in a playoff in the first place.
The Dodgers finished the season at 84-78. The Cubs were 97-65.
Why should there even be a playoff?
The last time the teams with the best record in each league met in the World Series was
1999, when the Yankees (98-64) beat the Atlanta Braves (103-59).
That’s what I want to see!
Yea, they each had to get through the playoffs, but playoff cause a situation like this…..once in a blue moon do the two best teams meet in the World Series. It’s stupid, in my opinion. It cheapens the whole season. A team like Atlanta could win 103 games and watch the World Series on TV being played by two teams with less than 90 wins. How stupid is that?
Isn’t winning the World Series suppose to show that a team is the best team for that year? You can’t say that if your team doesn’t have the best season record, can you?
I’ll never support any system that prevents the two best from meeting in the end. I’ll feel cheated out of knowing who the best really is!

We can quibble over the rules...
But I for one don’t really care about “best teams meeting”
Had the Cubs made it to the World Series, I was rooting for the best matchup. I wasn’t rooting for the Angels to see some clash of the titans.
It’s odd hearing this from a Cards fan. I personally would take 83 wins and a World Series without looking back.

You're not alone.
there’s 2 schools of thought on that for sure, but I don’t even like it when the Cards get in if they don’t have the best record. Its a two way street. i just want to see the most deserving team get what they earned and not be beat out of it by some lesser team. That’s just me.

Since 1999
The team with the best record in the National League has only gone to be in the World Series one time. That was the 2004 Cardinals. The National League playoffs have been very unpredictable in the 2000’s.

Quite honestly...
…if this team knew finishing in 1st place would get them an automatic WS birth, I am not sure how they would have responded down the stretch.

Curse
Why do we keep avoiding it??? I’ve been watching for 50 years. They will never win it. Did you understand? Never!!!!!!!! Never!!!!!!! I’m done. Finished. I’ve had it. This team is cursed and anyone who denies this is wrong. Something has to be done with that goat. Let’s stop living in denial!!! Jesus could run this team and they won’t win. Marty Brenneman was right!! Maybe it’s the Cubbie Blue uniform. Maybe it’s cutsie Wrigley Field (We should put a dome over it). I’m running out of time. I’m sorry. We should call in the experts and get this curse removed.
