Anyone else notice the movie TNT preempted...

before the broadcast switched to TBS on Saturday was "Titanic"?! When the game shut off on TNT it was right at the scene where they showed a panoramic view of the whole ship going down half in and half out of the water. When it happened I just screamed "noooo! Don't show me this now!" in a fit of denial and quickly put on TBS. Now it just seems fitting. Maybe someday I'll even find it amusing.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, editor-in-chief (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

I commented on that right away Saturday night

They could not have had a more fitting movie.

If there was ever an apt metaphor for the 2008 Cubs...

…it’s the Titanic. The unsinkable ship running into something it didn’t see coming and quickly plumetting to the bottom of the sea.

So this is how it ends.

HBO...

Just HAD to play that special they did on the Cubs, “Wait ’till Next Year”, the day after the sweep.

Someday we'll go all the way...

Don’t get HBO so I missed that one. Gotta love that timing.

KOW?

Guess it was time to change the name eh?

by StevenABQ on Oct 7, 2008 10:15 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

LOL

I asked her about this yesterday and she said she was in no way affilated with KOW.

Seriously, though, Kowlady, what’s the story behind your user name?

So this is how it ends.

by dat cubfan daver on Oct 7, 2008 10:26 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Based on the user info I have...

… they are not the same person.

But I’ll let her explain further, if she wants to.

Who's KOW?

My name actually has nothing to do with baseball. Nothing to do with strikes, outs and walks. Nothing to do with Harry Caray. I am an artist that paints cows. I’ve often overheard people refer to me at shows as " the cow lady". Some even to my face. My last name has “kow” in the middle of it and people point that out too. That’s why I spell it with a K. So who’s this Kow person?

by katie casey on Oct 7, 2008 10:40 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You don't wanna know.

Rest assured, you’re already off to a better start.

Um, yeah.

I’ll let KOW herself explain if she so chooses. Let’s just say she’s a very well-known poster with a long, colorful history here at BCB. It’s just a funny coincidence that you put “Kow” in your user name. Welcome aboard.

So this is how it ends.

by dat cubfan daver on Oct 7, 2008 11:07 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sorry my bad

I figured the name had been changed since cubs won’t make it to “series in 100”.

by StevenABQ on Oct 7, 2008 11:01 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hm, actually that would make sense.

Few KOW-related things do, though.

So this is how it ends.

On Saturday

they interrupted the movie and went right back to the same point after the game cut back over to TBS. On Sunday however, they just picked up where the movie was as if it were not interrupted. Where Rose is looked up at the Statue of Liberty upon arriving at Ellis Island.

“gees look at that thing, you would have gone straight to the bottom”. That’s exactly what the Cubs did.

So let me understand this. Cubs-to-series-by-100 isn’t the ‘original’ KOW?

Sweet Lou for Mayor in '11.

Nah pretty sure

They are the original KOW But they are not “Kowlady”

by StevenABQ on Oct 7, 2008 12:04 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

cubstoseries100 = KOW

(which is an abbreviation of “kerrysotherwife,” her previous user name)

So this is how it ends.

by dat cubfan daver on Oct 7, 2008 12:25 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

For some reason

KOW always reminds me of the old Batman series you know like KOW! and POW! (Imagine Comic Book action burst).

Clarification

I am a completely seperate person. Don’t know this person but they seem very pleasant and a nice addition to the assemblage.

I’d love to change my name but would email Al first. Al I think you’ve mentioned you can’t change before right?

At this time I do not have the ability to change usernames...

… because of the new SBN-wide user names.

Thanks Al. Will you let me know if this changes? I’d like to be if possible cubbiegirlshamus.

When they cut in...

…I’ll bet it was when the ship split apart and went under.

Buster Olney said a few days ago that the Braves would entertain offers for their 26 year old shortstop (who makes 450k) Yunel Escobar. He is a plus bat, a solid defender, and would move Theriot to his more appropriate position at second.

They are looking for a bat in return. Apparently Cox doesn't like the guy.

I couldn't even speculate what we'd have to send them in return, but I think he would be a good fit given his low salary, his productive bat, his position, and his age. I don't care if he's a jerk if he makes the team win more.

What would it take?
