Fraud sets up Ebay auction of Cubs Loyalty

Did anyone else hear about this?

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-talk-cubs-auction-newoct08,0,6835728.story

Some fraud decided to fake being a lifelong Cubs fan and is selling his loyalty to the highest bidder.

What a fraud.  I'll give him 10 points for creativity but if anyone actually believes this money will go to charity I have swampland in Florida to sell you.

30 year old fan whoopee.  Spoiled rotten brat is more like it.

This is funny

Come April, This dude will take that $400 and go out and replace all of the stuff that he burned. I understand his frustration but there is no way someone that has been a fan for that long can walk away. Maybe this is a good time for everyone to keep thier expectations in check. I know if they win 97 games next year, I am still going to be nervous. I am curious to see what sort of team we put together. GO CUBS!!

when asked about his performance against the Reds - Lieber said the following
"Well obviously I made some bad pitches today, left to many over the plate and they got good wood on the ball. The only good thing was that I was able to get back into the clubhouse earlier then I planned so I could eat."

This is exactly what we don't need.

Idiotic sideshows. We’ve had too many years of THIS being the focus of being a Cubs fan, rather than baseball. Best ignored.

I find nothing wrong with the bid

I think the newspapers didn’t need to publicize it.

Anyone who wants to show their displeasure with the Cubs should be able to just as people have done it on here. But you’re right Al as it should be ignored.

by ak123 on Oct 8, 2008 8:54 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

This was on WGN radio this morning

First of all, the kid said he was going to give the winner a receipt from the donation to charity. And second, he has an Andre Dawson glove that is part of the stuff to be burned. You can debate how stupid/not stupid this is, but your lack of information on the topic does not mean the seller is defrauding anybody.

by dr stabbingworth on Oct 8, 2008 9:05 AM CDT   0 recs

Agreed.

If I was him, I’d sell of the stuff to be burned too, I’m sure there is someone out there in Ebayland waiting to find an Andre Dawson glove. If your gonna burn Cubs stuff, burn stuff that has little or no value — like the Mark Prior Jersey we all have hanging in the closet in the extra bedroom.

I have to admit...

I think this guy is stupid. However, that people are bidding on this makes me wonder who the stupid one really is. If the bid gets high enough I wonder how many people will start selling their loyalty to teams. Interesting….. Stupid… but interesting.

Where's that jackass Cards fan from the other day?

He should pony up the cash and get this deal done. It’s the only “conversion” he’s likely to get.

So this is how it ends.

by dat cubfan daver on Oct 8, 2008 10:36 AM CDT   0 recs

Oh man

That ranks as one of the stranger encounters I’ve had on BCB.

which fanpost? there’s been quite the deluge lately…

It looks like it got deleted

Just some crazy Cards fan trying to “recruit” Cubs fans to join “Cardnial Nation”. It was just strange…he was a creep…just trolling around trying to make trouble.

I don't think anything beats...

KOW’s run to being banned way back when. That was…i can’t even describe it.

The post about the get together at KOW's place

was my favorite post on BCB of all time.

I kinda liked the whole "t-shirt's in the mail" adventure from last year

frustrating to some, amusing to others – and I would guess – interesting to all.

Can I buy his Cubs stuff?

Seriously, why burn it?

Why not even donate the stuff too?

Are there really stupid non-Cub fans who would enjoy watching the DVD that much?

by IllinoisCubs on Oct 8, 2008 10:38 AM CDT   0 recs

Someone like this

SOmeone like this I wouldn’t trust. Obviously a fraud. Wow he has an Andre Dawson glove proves he’s a Cubs fan.

He is probably a drunk bandwagon jumping fan who will be at any post season victory claiming he’s a loyal Cubs fan and has been his entire life.

I’d give him more credibility if he was enough of a fan to know these items (not that I believe he has them) would go for more money for charity than his loyalty would.

The only question is he really a Sox or a Cardinals fan?

Not to be mean

Ok maybe a little, but I feel like I wasted alot of time even thinking about this. Who cares if he is or isn’t a Cubs fan? Like anyone has control over the actions of other people (Even Cubs fans). Its like trying to vilify the guy for hustling a buck. Why is this even given any thought – its so ridiculous. And why all of a sudden does he have to be drunk? KOW, you appear to have some serious issues with people who drink (it seams) since you always tend to use that as a put-down. I mean seriously? Where did that come from…its like saying - “oh that guy that murdered his wife…he must of been a drunk bandwagon jumping fan” -- Like there is nothing lower on the face of the earth. C’mon.

by StevenABQ on Oct 8, 2008 1:28 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Drunk

Drinking is nothing wrong. Getting drunk and acting stupid is.

Plus, I really don't understand...

… the thought, expressed here now and at other times, that if someone believes that a person does something that isn’t up to their standard of what a Cub fan should be, that makes that person a Sox or Cardinals fan, as if that’s the embodiment of evil.

I know plenty of White Sox and Cardinals fans who are good people and passionate followers of their teams. Does that make them bad people because they’re not Cubs fans?

Ridiculous.

+1

especially since we all know that true embodiments of evil are the sole domain of and reserved exclusively for Yankee fans… ;-)

Heck yeah!

I think I’ve had some of the best baseball discussions with my Boss who is a die-hard White Sox fan, and a co-worker who is a Cardinals fan. Both nice guys — good guys.

by StevenABQ on Oct 8, 2008 5:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Sox and Cardinals fans

Sox and Cardinals fans are good people for the most part. One that would pull this stunt to insult the Cubs and Cub fans are not.

Wow the guy has an Andre Dawson glove. I know Sox fans who have paraphenalia of Cubs they respected. And vice versa. I have a Carlton Fisk catcher’s glove. Can I burn that and claim to be a lifelong Sox fan?

Thngs of worth are worth fighting for regardless of the odds.

Drunks

Al people who drink and act well aren’t who I talk about.

It’s those who shout obscenities, make obscene gestures and spill beer on you in the stands that I have a problem with.

by cubstoseriesby100 on Oct 9, 2008 9:12 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I would agree with that.

But saying “they’re a Sox or Cardinals fan” as if that makes them bad people, is just plain wrong.

I've got some

Oceanfront property in Arizona. From my front porch you can see the sea. I’ve got some oceanfront property in Arizona. If you’ll buy that I’ll throw the golden gate in free.

Thats just intresting.

I seriously doubt how big a cubs fan he could be if he’s willing to just give up? It’s my first true year as a Cubs fan and I know I’ll be around for a long time. (I’ve always watched the cubs but never really followed them, just always rooted for them)

But it’s a free country, let him do what he wants.

by cubsfaninatl on Oct 8, 2008 4:16 PM CDT   0 recs

He's too young to be that jaded

For that level of “claimed” frustration, he has to have witnessed (and understood) 1969 at a minimum.

Really, it’s complete crock of shit and he’s probably going to go spend the money on hookers.

Sweet Lou for Mayor in '11.
