Paul Sullivan tells fans to avoid all things Cubs-including BCB!

Today's Cubs mailbag posted this question:

Did we get the wrong egomaniac when we got Soriano? Seems like we might have been better served putting our money on Manny Ramirez. Then again, he would have been a Cub, so...

Paul gives his 9 things Cubs fans should do to forget this season. Including avoiding all blogs and such.

I agree

with the “Its going to Happen” posters, signs, T-shirts etc.
I will always stop in at BCB.

I will definintely be more subdued next year, just keep my passion in check.

I agree with being more subdued.

Most fans really felt this was going to be the year to at least make it to the WS. Another sweep was and still is awfully depressing.

He shouldve added

Pointless drivel like that article to the list-people are way too wrapped up in this stuff, signs and countdowns arent the reason why they lose…..do these same people believe if horoscopes as well?

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

of course horoscopes are true

you can read all about them on the Internet, so they must be true ..

Well, Next Year is here .. and Jack's century's gotta end some time .. GO CUBBIES!

I agree with him COMPLETELY!!

I’ve pretty much gotten over the collapse but I know the whole NLDS will be re-hashed once the NLCS starts, as Tim McCarver, is no doubt, already preparing his Cubs bashing pre game analysis. (I HATE TIM McCARVER!!!)

But, in all honesty, I was nervous as hell before the NLDS started. I did not begin watching it with confidence — Rather, I was fearing the worst. Can anybody else admit to having these feelings?

Al’s recap of game 1 told me that the crowd that night had the same feeling, not to mention, the TBS announcers commented on the quietness of the crowd. Were we all fearing the worst??? Be honest!!

I don't know if I was fearing the worst.

I guess I was just hoping the Cubs would’ve got to Lowe early. Kinda ease the tension a little. Then Dempster started to struggle and I began to lose faith.

I was worried when we got the Dodgers for sure

Mostly b/c of Chad Billingsley, oddly enough, b/c hes so good and not many people are that aware of him. Lowe gets kind of overlooked as well, but theyre both groundball pitchers….which as we saw, doomed the Cubs.

I was thinking theyd split in wrigley and then win in LA…..whoops

Writers like Sullivan

Are the reason blogs came into existence.

If you read what he wrote...

…he went ahead and listed a handful of blogs explicitly – it was tounge in cheek and a nice bit of publicity for some of us Cubs bloggers.

Paul Sullivan is brutal

Sullivan has never written a thing of insight or brilliance in his career. And he looks like a creepy middle aged guy who lives in the basement of his mother’s home and peeks through the curtains as the junior high children get off the bus.

Here's the difference...

…Sullivan is paid to express his opinion. Some people even pay to read his opinion.

In contrast, I’d pay to NOT see your opinion on a daily basis.

Sullivan went to school for years to be a writer, and you didnt. He has a column that is read by millions daily, you dont. Maybe before you say the most ignorant things about the person, you take a minute to consider the fact that he’s just doing his job. I doubt he kicks the windex and dirty rag out of your hand when your at work, so dont bash him, ok?

I get it, you were in SI because the writer couldnt believe how ignorant you were. Its a badge of courage. Go to school for years to learn how to write, get a degree, and then bash him, and I’ll take you serious. Until then, dont bash professionals.

One thing you learned as a Cubs fan: when you bought you ticket, you could bank on seeing the bottom of the ninth.

Sorry if thats mean...

…but you’re way out of line to go THAT far out of your way to completely insult a professional. If you dont agree with him, say so, but dont bash him.

Did you ever talk with him?

I had to chance to chat with him a few years ago. He’s CLUELESS. I began to wonder about his credentials when I caught him on CLTV Sportspage originally. It’s ironic he rips on blogs because I believe that is a major source of his material.

I don’t know if technically he’s a beat reporter or a columnist but for beat reporters, Bruce Miles and Bruce Levine are both pretty damned good. For a columnist, well I stick by my guns and still say Barry Rozner is the best in ChiTown.

I'm not one...

..that subscribes to the theory of somene needs to have played the game to understand it, but Sullivan (not unlike most at the Trib) just don’t seem to have a good feel for the game based on what he writes.

Quite honestly, I don’t think there is anyone at the Trib, that is worth reading when it comes to baseball, and there aren’t a whole bunch in Chicago period (maybe 3-4 guys).

As far as the convention goes next year...

I really hope someone grills Crane Kenney for that awful idea of pouring holy water or whatever it was onto the dugouts

I happen to like Crane and I think he’s done a good job. But that holy water thing was really stupid.

#10

stop sending in any questions to Paul Sullivan. He has absolutely no insight, never played the game one day in his life and is a bitter old bastard just waiting for the Tribune to lay him off so he can move to Florida and sell pencils on the beach to vacationers.

Problem is

Problem is we have an entrenched media in this city.

The only beat writer worth a darn in this city covering any team is Bruce Miles and I don’t just say that because he visits us here.

Thngs of worth are worth fighting for regardless of the odds.

Still reading BCB and going to the Convention

I LOVE visiting Chicago in January to freeze my butt off. Heck this year I am in STAYING at the Hilton. I assume
Mr. Sullivan will not be there to cover it which is one good thing.

I never had any of the extra bits of signs or T shirts for this season but I keep and WEAR what I had from before. Also gonna keep the SI subscription because it is damn cheap and while I could care LESS about Hockey , football ( Ok except the Packers), basketball etc I still enjoy reading it. To each his own I guess but I don’t need advice from Sullivan on how to handle my life.

This is my therapy...

I guess misery loves company. Sharing thoughts and feelings about our Cubs obsession is what makes me feel better. Without this, I would just complain to people who couldn’t care less.

Anyway, I wore my Cubs hat to work today, the healing process begins.

Someday we'll go all the way...
