Griffey would have been the key ingredient
This was not all that Obvious During the season when the Cubs were winning Big and Jim Edmonds and Johnson were Adequate. But Ken Griffey was just what the Cubs needed in the Post season. He is the type of ballplayer who would have had a Manny Ramirez affect on the team and he would have had a much more affect on the Cubs than he Did on the White Sox. As for left handed Hitters that are needed the Cubs should start in Center Field.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation, Bleed Cubbie Blue, or Al Yellon, editor-in-chief. FanPost opinions are, however, valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Huh?
Griffey hit .260/.347/.405 (.751 OPS) with the White Sox down the stretch. In the playoffs, he hit .200/.273/.200 (.473 OPS). I’m not exactly sure how he would have had a Manny-like effect in any way.

No way...
…Edmonds contributed more power than Griffey ever could have hoped to.

Exactly.
Griffey wasn’t the reason the White Sox won the AL Central. In fact, it could be argued they might have gone farther with Brian Anderson in CF.

The only thing Manny and Junior have in common at this point
is that they are both awful defensively at their positions. While Edmonds was with the Cubs, he was as productive as any center fielder in baseball. In fact, he may have been the best in the league over his time with the Cubs. Edmonds also had the highest slugging percentage on the team, thirty six points ahead of Soriano. Keep in mind that Griffey, while with the White Sox, had a .405 slugging percentage, and thats while playing at the Cell. This post is utterly ridiculous and you might be the only person on this planet that believes Griffey had a place on the Cubs. Griffey shouldn’t even be a starter period, let alone on a contender.

While we are living in the past...
how about Ted Williams or Ty Cobb. We could have used either of their bats.
