Soto named National League Rookie of the Year!!
We all know it was pretty much a foregone conclusion... today MLB named Geovany Soto the National League Rookie of the Year. Soto is the first Cub to win the Rookie of the Year since Kerry Wood in 1998, and Jerome Walton in 1989.
Soto is the first catcher to win Rookie of the Year in the National League since Mike Piazza 15 years ago, in 1993. In his first full year in the majors, Soto batted .285, with 23 homers, and 86 RBI. Soto led all rookies with his 86 RBI, and was superb behind the dish.

Look it up
I called it before the season started. Congratulations to Geo. I hope he is with us for a long, long time.
I want my Macias!
Congrats, Geo!
You earned it, buddy. Here’s the Cubs/MLB article on the annoucement.

Congrats!
Great to hear. Hopefully this is the start of a long, productive career behind the dish for Soto.

Any word on any press conference or such?
I remember there being one for Kerry.

There was a conference call.
Here’s the link from the Cubs homepage.

Better yet, who voted for Dome?

No kidding
A homer vote perhaps?

Maybe because he...
helped introduce some Cubs to a thing called patience at the plate…
…then subsequently forgot all about his teachings and started swinging like a 5 year old Helen Keller.

Something tells me Marty Brenneman has something to with it
He does have quite a few bones to pick with the Cubs for whatever reason.
Your 2008 Missouri Tigers! #14 7-2 (3-2). Next up K-State. Chase Coffman is a god.
Hooray!
Even if it was expected, it’s still a tremendous honor and recognition for the man.
All generalizations are false.
Confused
I was under the impression that Edinson Volquez was not eligible for Rookie of the Year voting, yet he got three 3rd place votes to finish fourth in voting. IF he were eligible for voting I’d expect that he’d have garnered more votes than Jair Jurrjens, who finished in third.
Volquez wasn't eligible.
I’m surprised those votes were even counted.

Yup
MLB should have disqualified the votes… why they were published is beyond me. I’ve never seen a ballot but I wonder there are players listed or if writers “write in” names. Either way the Volquez votes should have been thrown out. Had someone written in “Ryan Dempster” I cannot imagine that would be published.
