Best of the 21st-25th man

Stay connected for news and updates

We all have debates and discussions about who have been the Cubs best players overall over the years.

But my brothers and I were talking the other night over who has been the best of the Cubs at the back end of the roster over the years, the best 5th starters, backup infielders and outfielders, backup catcher etc.

I think the 2008 Cubs non coincidentally with the 97 wins had some of the best in recent memory.

Love him or hate him Jason Marquis is one of the best 5th starters in the game.  He is overpaid but he stays healthy and most of the time gives a passable performance.  Honestly if he made 2 million a year would we have such a problem with him?

Henry Blanco produces decently plays a good game behind the plate and has been a great mentor to Soto.

Mike Fontenot can play several positions and play decently and produces at the plate.
