How about approaching the off-season from a different angle? Instead of asking, "Who will the Cubs get by trade?" I'm wondering who everyone thinks the Cubs are likely to trade away.
There are several different categories I'm seeing for players we might trade. There are players we'd trade to clear salary. There are marginal/bench players we'd trade to teams who thought those players could play a bigger role for them. Finally, there are players we wouldn't want to trade but would be willing to give up for something else we want.
So, rated on a scale of 1 (least likely) to 10 (most likely), here are the players I think we might see traded away.
Potential Contract Dumps: Kosuke Fukudome (4), Jason Marquis (9), Alfonso Soriano (3)
Potential They-Like'em-Better-Than-We-Do Trades: Ronny Cedeno (8), Neal Cotts (5), Mike Fontenot (5), Chad Gaudin (6), Kevin Hart (4), Rich Hill (6), Micah Hoffpauir (3), Sean Marshall (6), Felix Pie (9), Michael Wuertz (10)
Potential Reluctant Trades: Welington Castillo (5), Mark DeRosa (6), Kevin Gregg (3), Rich Harden (3), Ted Lilly (2), Josh Vitters (4)
