Questions
How much? (not that it would be prohibitive…)
Do these sell out on the first day? (I know they sell out every year, but will they be sold out in hours, etc?)

$60.
Last year they were sold out in an hour. This year — with the increased price (it was $50 last year) and the exit from the playoffs, maybe not so much.

you think so Al?
I have a feeling that place will still sell out. Seeing as how it sold out in years following 65 win campaigns I have a hard time believing that they won’t sell out this year.

The other day
The other day I got a headsup there were cancellations at the hotel (from a friend who works there) and rooms were available but it was posted somewhere else and by the time I got back to my computer to post it here they were gone.

on stub hub
the cheapest were at $95 each this morning and now at $107. Last year I waited until December and bought two for $65 each. Just a little over face value.

I noticed them being less on stubhub after this inital hype was over last year. I will have to check then.

Try again later today or in a few days.
It’s possible some credit cards will be denied or some transactions cancelled. They are not mailing passes till December 16.

calling 1-800-THE-CUBS but its been busy every time.

But I got through immediately at 10, and my receipt says I got pass #187. Depending on how many were sold (low thousands?) that could be on pace.

why I didnt have a link to buy the tickets. I opened 2 different browsers and I was on the phone with my uncle and he had no link as well eliminating that as well. Did anyone who got through use a Mac like I did? Thats the only other thing I can think of.

I got no link,
then I came back on here to get the real link, then I was in VWR for 15 mins, then got through for 1 single. That was seconds before it was sold out.

Pirates did that
I think in 2007 they did a 5th inning walkout so the stadium would be empty.
Problem was that afterwards the park looked no different than any other game.

Question for Al
Al I have a friend at the Hilton who gives me updates on room availability. Often when she calls I am at a time when I don’t get to my computer for several hours but can email.
Should I email you when this happens? The other time it did by the time I got to BCB they were gone.

However, the Cubs are still better than some in that
they don’t charge for their autographs outside of the convention pass. The Cardinals winter warm for example does not have a lottery for the big players and folks have to purchase tickets to get the pujols, musials, of the world. There are some free ones…but those are reserved for the Skip Schumaker, Randy Flores of the world…
This will be my 7 convention…still hoping for a lottery…although I have been lucky enough to get Sandberg, Banks, and Lou in the Lobby…

Missing out this year
It was between this or getting laser eye surgery and the surgery is something I’ve always wanted.
I do enjoy the weekend though. Being that I live in NY it’s the only weekend I truly feel like I’m a Chicagoan again. I go for the photos and autographs during the day and meet up with friends I had until I moved at night.
I still can’t believe people stay up all night to be first in line for a Mark DeRosa autograph though…

Yes...
Some guys you can wait till pretty close to their signing but for most of the big names that are not lottery picks, my experience is that you need to get in line early. Last year, I got in line for Dawson at 3:00 am. He signed at 1000 I believe. Probably a little extreme but he was the one guy I wanted and one who never signs in the Lobby. 2 years ago I got in line for Sut and I missed him by about 10 people.

I started early
I got one share of stock in the Cubs for my HS graduation ( when Wrigley owned them) and I went to my first stockholders meeting thinking most others were like me , dedicated but impatient Cub fans but instead folks were asking things like if they were going to carry 2 or 3 catchers. Keep in mind the GM then was Bob Kennedy who most of us wanted to trade for his son Terry. Anyway my turm came and I admit I was a bit stern but this was not long after they had traded batting champ Bill Madlock in the middle of the night because he actually wanted real money to play ( maybe $400,000?) . Mr Kennedy’s response to my question about recent Cub deals and how that treated certain players was " Young lady I think you are being hostile" . However I will always love Hendry for single handedly bringing back Maddux so while I might ask him a tough question I would never be hostile and anyway as previously noted he is skilled at dodging them, A lot of the questioners do tend to break down to the VERY hostile and very stupid but there is a middle ground.
