Many reasons why this deal is NOT dead. Again, patience wins this one in the long run, and the Cubs give up fewer pieces.

I think it is dead

Now that we’re a few days out and the Padres situation looks bleaker and bleaker, Peavy will probably expand his list to get out of that situation quicker.

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

Here in L.A......

….. there are a lot of people pressurig the Dodgers to offer the Padres Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw for Peavy. And they think it’s a good deal for the Dodgers.

He is good as gone

just not to the Cubs. Towers wanted 5 or 6 players for Peavy and Hendry made the right call and pulled out of the deal.
Just wish somehow the deal could of gotten done with the Cubs. Interesting to see where he will go.

Peavy is as good as gone for sure

But I still think he might be coming to the Cubs.

Here are the three AL teams Peavy would accept a trade to according to his agent:

Angels – If they don’t sign Mark Texeria, there is no doubt in my mind this is where Peavy will end up. They just offered Tex and 8-yr 160 million dollar deal so I think he’ll accept that. Cross them off the list.

Yankees – They just signed CC and Burnett for a combined $240 million. I highly doubt they will get Peavy and have $300 million invested in 3 pitchers. It’s the Yankees though so who knows.

Red Sox – The Red Sox have been very quiet this offseason so I’m not really familiar with their situation. I’d have to say they are probably the most likely AL team to acquire Peavy.

“If there were circumstances where he would be asked to go to the AL, kicking and screaming, those are the three places.” According to his agent Barry Axelrod. It doesn’t sound like Peavy would be to thrilled going to any of those teams. If i’m any of those teams I don’t know if I would want to commit to him for 4 years and give up big-time prospects for a guy that is lukewarm at best about the team he is coming to.

NL teams:

Giants – I really don’t think the Giants will be willing to give up prospects to get Peavy, especially since it’s a in-division trade. Why would Peavy want to go here anyway? They’re going to be a bad team for a while.

Dodgers – Same situation as the Giants. Probably won’t want to give up many prospects

Braves – Already said they’re out of it. Traded for Vazquez.

Leading suitors:

1.Cubs
2.Dodgers
3.Giants
4.Red Sox

I still see Towers finally giving in and lowing his asking price within the next few weeks. Hopefully we have out RF situation done by then and get this trade done!
