It seems obvious
Out of all of the OF free agents and or possible trades available to the Cubs this off season, I think that we should either stand pat, or get Adam Dunn. He is better and younger than Burrell, Bradley, Chone I'm only productive if I bat .330 Figgins and Milton Bradley.
Burrell is an older version of Dunn. In fact, Dunn is the youngest person on this list.
Yes, Dunn's fielding is bad, but not as bad as Burrell's or Bradley's.
Accounting Dunn's fielding prowess (or lack thereof) will still net the Cubs wins.
Bradley is the offensive equivalent to Rich Harden, who, while explosive when healthy, is not a guarantee to play a complete season. Unless you can sign Bradley to an incredibly cheap contract (3/21m), I would shy away from him.
I would sign Dunn to 3/30m.
Depending on how Dome does it would dictate whether or not you dump Derosa mid season, as we have a VERY capable 2nd basemen in Fontenot.
Yeah he platooned this year, but lifetime against LHP he put up and OPS of .683.
Lifetime, Derosa put up an OPS of .738 against RHP. At 28 (fontenots age in 08') Derosa put up a .674 OPS in a larger sample size than Fontenots lifetime 84 PA life time.
Also, at 2B, Fontenot is a better fielder evidenced by the +/- system. Oh, and he's a lefty!
Standing pat is also a good option offensively.
1. Theriot
2. Lee
3. Ramirez
4. Soriano
5. Soto
6. Dero
7. Fontenot
8. Fukudome/Pie
9. Pitcher

Umm Bradley isn't nearly as bad a defender as you think
Also 3/30 seems a little low for Dunn. I would think 13 mil a year at least for him

he deserves all the nothing he gets
I think at some point of the Okie State game his head got so big and he got so cocky that he had no chance to win.
Thank god Jeremy Maclin and Chase Coffman make games fun to watch still.

Yeah man.
For as much I’m a Badger fan and expected nothing less than a Big 10 Championship or at least a January 1 bowl…this season has been as disappointing to you as it has been to me.

Oh please
I’m in the Indiana Marching band. We went to a bowl game last year. Expectations were HUGE considering last year and the easy schedule this year (no Michigan or Ohio State). We had 3 wins, lost to rival Purdue by 52 points, had 1 big ten win. I’d say you have not much to be sad about

It Seems Obvious
That agents are gonna start screaming ‘collusion’ shortly.
It seems obvious that clubs are gonna claim economic hardship and volatile market.
It seems obvious there aren’t a whole lot of solutions for the Cubs problems for sale right now.
It seems obvious that Hendry is having a hard time formulating sensible deals because everyone else senses urgency on the Cubs part.
It seems obvious that fans are gonna complain about not rearranging the pieces on a team that won 97 games last year.
It seems obvious that the Cubs wish they could copy the Red Sox sustainable model but until they get their feeder system in order have no shot.
Nothing is ever as it seems. Seemingly.

how many grooves are there on a record?
you know, a “record”. those big round flat black things that us old folks take out of the closet every now and then, look at them and sigh wistfully…

From the standpoint of a music major struggling through college...
LPs of classical pieces were a great investment. I built a collection of 600 discs, covering every era and nearly every genre (I’m not big on opera) for maybe $100 over the course of three years. Lots of places will practically pay you to take their classical LPs, and plenty of people are glad to get them out of their basements/attics. Plus you can find some great recordings by big name conductors and performers that aren’t available on CD.

Wow
I can’t believe anyone would think Milton Bradley’s OF defense is actually worse than that of Adam Dunn. You’re just trying to talk yourself into Dunn because of his power. Dunn is easily one of the worst 5 starting OF’’s in all of baseball. Bradley is nowhere near the bottom of that list.
Who needs a stinkin' tag line? What are they for anyway?

If he's such a great outfielder...
… why did he spend most of his time at DH last year?

health concerns. Neither is a real good sign.

He was the DH
BECAUSE THEY HAD YOUNGER AND FASTER OUTFIELD OPTIONS IN TEXAS.
WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IT OR NOT, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A DH IN EVERY LINEUP AND THEY HAD NO OTHER OPTION BESIDES HIM

He still is a good COF, though I don't think he can really play CF very well anymore.
His arm is not nearly as good as it used to be, but it is still more than adequate for RF.
The reason he DH’d so much last year was due to injuries — not just the knee surgery, but problems with the other knee as well as chronically bad hamstrings. My guess is that he would have played more games in the field had there been a “true” DH (i.e., Travis Hafner), but he probably would have played in fewer games overall.
My major concern about signing Gameboard, especially for 3 or more years, is injuries — not temper tantrums or problems with his teammates (provided we don’t sign Jeff Kent).

you've never seen him play against the Cubs?
he makes every routine fly ball an adventure. Don’t kid yourself. Bradley’s defense is much better. Also, Dunn at 3yrs/30 mil… not happening.

Well
He’s better than the other two starting outfielders in Cincinatti, so I guess that only leaves two more in all of baseball.
For your information, the Supreme Court has roundly rejected prior restraint.

No standing pat.
Seriously, we are assuming that Fukudome will somehow turn it around and become a viable platoon option. On that note, we are assuming that Reed Johnson will be the Reed of last year, and not the one that was released by the Blue Jays. Fontenot is a nice little player, but he’s not an everyday 2nd baseman; I don’t want to turn next year into an experiment to see if he is either.
At the very least we need a left handed OF, whether it be via FA or trade. Also, we could use another veteran bench guy.
Someday we'll go all the way...

May I suggest Kevin Millar?
