Dr.Tightpants signs with KC for over 9 Million

Our old friend Kyle Farnsworth of the 100 mph fastball and the 10 cent brain has been signed by the Royals for two years at
9.25 million and another 750,000 in potential bonuses. I trust all
bars in the greater Kansas City area will be getting their own financial bailout when he hits town.

this

is one of most ignorant deals I think Ive ever seen.

Dear Santa:: All I want for X-mas this year is an official 2009 Jake Peavy Cubs Jersey. Oh and a Beimel one too. I've been a real good guy for the most part!!!

I don't think so.

I like the Royals making moves to win their division, and do it now. It’s a risk, sure, but at least they’re trying. Crisp, Jacobs, Farnsworth. I appreciate the attempt the Royals are making and can’t wait to get to their new ballpark this season.

[In 2008] Kila Ka’aihue had the best on-base percentage of any hitter in the minor leagues. - Joe Posnanski, 11/9/2008 ... Ergo, let's give him a shot at first base in KC in 2009.

ok...

… if you want to win it now why are you wasting $9.25M on a guy who isn’t very good? I think you’re missing the point. Farnsworth is not good. He is a cancer who has moved from team to team. He has gotten very little out of his talent. So its not about spending money, its about spending money on a bad player with a history of some off the field transgressions that impact him on he field.

As a Royals fan you should be incensed with Dayton Moore’s horrid decision here. Think Andy Sisco from the right side.

I wasnt gonna waste my time conversing with anyone that thinks royals spending 9+ million on dr tightpants was a good move. especially when you got guys like saito, beimel, chad cordero etc out there.

I particularly loved this quote

“Kyle has been very, very dominant at times in his career, and we feel that he’s continuing to get better,”

Oh Al I forgot is Kyle dominant in even years or odd ones ?

Odd numbers.

2001, 2003 were his best years as a Cub. 2004 was when he had his meltdown (and then he was gone).

Hmm...

I think this is just a move to draw the KC ladies to the ballpark. :)

maybe

they signed him as a team bodyguard in case jose guillen goes off and they need protection.

To give Kyle credit

His takedown of Paul Wilson was one of the great Wrigley non playing moments. To this day I have no idea what Wilson was thinking
when he went out to mound after a very big, very angry moron.

That wasn't at Wrigley.

It was in Cincinnati. Here you go:

I want the shot with Wilson's blood on Kyle's shirt

Still one of my favorite Cub moments as silly as that is. Kyle IS a moron but Wilson should NEVER have taken run
at him.

You mean Kyle's blood on Wilson's shirt, right?

the tackling dummy drill

as played out from the bump. Unfortunately, Wilson was the tackling dummy for Farnsworth. What a great moment of humiliation for the Reds. Isn’t it sad that this will be the “play” that Farnsworth will be remembered for.

…and of course, his mouth.

No Kyle had a lot more of Wilson's blood on his jersey

There was no question that Kyle beat the crap out of him. Wilson but Wilson really did start it,

Well --

Kaufmann Stadium is being renovated, it’s not a ‘new’ ball park, to be accurate. However, I’ve just looked at the re-construction and it should look a bit less 60’s-ish from the outside with more amenities.

It would have been a shame to tear down the old park — but, it’s still way outside of KC, so it’s still fairly rural — with the airport nearby.

Oh come on,

Farnsworth is not an idiot, so he likes to party once in awhile, so what? He’s and intimidating pitcher, and I wouldn’t have minded if the cubs had gone after him this year. He’s better than Kevin Gregg.

by tizzle on Dec 14, 2008 8:04 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Um, not really.

Farnsworth could be dominant when he had his head screwed on straight, which was rarely. Yes, he liked to party — more than once in a while, which was one reason his pitching wasn’t always dominant. Staying out all night isn’t very conducive to pitching in day games.

KC is hoping that their great...

…pitching coach, Bob McClure, can help. And McClure is good, but can he stop the late-night endeavors? Thankfully the night life in KC is not nearly as exciting as in Chicago and NY. – TL

umm

not really what? I never called him dominant. Yeah he liked to party, but that doesnt mean he has a “10 cent brain”. It’s pretty stupid to say that about someone when you don’t even know them.

Maybe.

But that’s how he appears from his actions. This is a man who once hurt himself kicking footballs around the outfield in Wrigley Field after being told not to do it.

That may not be “idiot” behavior, but it comes under the category of “pretty damn stupid”.

Farnsworth IS an idiot

This man TWICE injured himself thus making him unavailable to help his team ( once he broke is foot by dropping and trying to kick a ball for fun and he of course smashed his hand in electric fan after being pulled from a game leading the best follow up post I have EVER seen on the net when someone asked if the was the only literal case of " the shit hitting the fan"). He came in I think 3rd one year in the SI poll of player in the category of “players with the most talent who do the least with it” . One of the things I vividly remember about him is that while you see players hanging around during batting practice in small groups, talking, shagging balls etc or in the dugout and bullpen during games, Kyle basically hung out with no one and was rarely seen talking to other players. It seemed the rest of the players were smart enough not to want to have to deal with him.

How do you break

your foot while drop-kicking a football? Am I missing something here? Was it made of cement?

by hmlee on Dec 15, 2008 1:46 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Al may know the details better

I heard he was drop kicking a baseball which if you did it the wrong way could injure your leg. Either way the guy is a total moron.

Maybe it was a baseball.

In any case, Jessica is right. Dr. Tightpants: million-dollar arm, 10-cent brain. Only now, the arm isn’t quite worth that much any more.

are setting themselves up for someone to do a series of articles called “The Royals Can of Worms.”
